A couple days late, but the Power Wagon has turned 2! I've had it two years as of 12/31/13. A lot has gone into this truck to get it to where I want! I have a few more small mods in the garage ready to be installed that I'll reveal soon!

how many miles on her now?

myoung84

Just recently rolled over 24k. Not too bad considering my 2010 had 50k in about 2 years. That also means that I have spent less on fuel since my 2010 averaged about 17 mpg and this truck gets about 10. LOL

Lol

Randall488

i'd kill for 10 mpg, my 8.0 is getting 4 as it sits

Wow. That's horrible! Tuneup maybe? Lol

helluva tune up, its gonna go from a 20v to a 12v here sooner or later.

I got to drive a 2014 Quad Cab, 4x4, 8 speed, 3.21 geared truck this week. We had a service vehicle go down at work and this is a rental. It's a stripped down SLT model but it's still pretty nice inside. I like the new interior a lot. The light gray and black looks really nice and the door panels even on the lower trim levels looks more upscale that the previous versions. I like the new center console with the integrated cup holders as well.

I really like the 8 speed. I've got the same trans in my Jeep and this one drives just as nice. I will say that the 3.21 gears were alright for the limited time I had behind the wheel. I did a mix of city and highway driving and it seemed to do just fine. This one does have the shorter 17's on it. With the 33's that come on the 20" wheels, I think I'd still want at least 3.55 gears, especially if you tow much. But for light duty use, the 17" wheels and 3.21 gears isn't a terrible choice. I didn't have a chance to get on the interstate and see how it holds speed up hills. That's the real test for me. I have a feeling it would drop to 7th gear at every incline, just like my Jeep with 3.09 gears does.

I actually like the rotary gear selector a lot. Much better than the joystick I have in the Jeep. It's very easy to use and is very natural, at least to me. It's has a very solid feel to it as well. They've also replaced the passenger side 12V socket with a USB charging only port. Great idea. The base model EVIC is set up a little better too. I like that it has idle and drive hours separated and that you can get all the vitals on one page. The electric steering has a different feel to it but steers very nice.

I really can't think of anything I didn't like about the refreshed model. They did a great job, IMO. I will say that I kind of miss being in a 1500 for jumping around town. Don't think I could give up my 2500 but a second 1500 for daily use would be sweet. :D

Was reading Truckin on the plane. Nice shout out you got Jeremy!

Then a few pages later they installed an Edelbrock supercharger on a 2012 Ram. Wanted to know more so I paid $3 for 30 minutes of wifi and got the tablet out. Didn't find much on it but the kit for the cars is about $6600. Never going to happen. Got to looking on old Ripp threads on DT and they were on sale for about $4k at one point. I don't need the Diablo so maybe that price might still be obtainable? I wonder how ugly the divorce is going to be? Lol

gotta love it man!

myoung84

My wife sort of said OK to my $4k supercharger idea! What to do....

0212353
01-15-2014, 07:33 PM
you fucking do it before she changes her mind you dillhole!

myoung84
01-15-2014, 10:21 PM
Lol. I sent an email to Hemifever to see if he can tune a supercharger via email. The 2012 isn't technically supported by Ripp, especially the 2500 but Sean should be able to do something. I also asked if he thought it would even be worth it on this heavy truck.

0212353
01-15-2014, 10:55 PM
is it worth it?

WTF, you need smacked? :Moon:

myoung84
01-15-2014, 11:11 PM
In a 2k lb 1500, it's most definitely worth it. On an 8k lb 2500, I don't know. It's never going to be a fast truck so I'm almost asking myself what's the point? It's like tapeing a cheetah to grandma's back. Lol

01-15-2014, 11:48 PM
dude...........I just sent over 5 houses to look at this weekend.........(to my realtor)

holy fack. I found one that makes me go WTF???

3100 sq ft....
main floor as 2 great rooms (24x20). huge master suite, kitchen, etc.......upstairs has 3 large bedroom and another living room (right?)

3 drawbacks........
- 2 car garage (I want 3)
- no walk out (but......who doesn't need excersize getting boxes up from the shop). Basement is 1600 sq foot.........SHOP GALORE!!
- area...little further away than I wanted to be....

But, still gonna look!

myoung84
01-15-2014, 11:57 PM
I need to start thinking about this house thing soon as well. Wife wants to build a house, I just want to find one already done that's fairly new and fits our needs. Don't really want to deal with building. I'm wanting around 3000 Sq ft and a 3 car garage is non-negotiable this time. I really wanted it when we bought this house but ended up compromising.

I like our house now but it's one bedroom short and all the rooms are upstairs. There's no where to put a second kiddo when that time comes without giving up my office, which I'm not willing to do. I also really want a house with everything downstairs and a big game room upstairs. We have a game room now but it's not very usable because of the short angled walls.

I think I'll do the smart thing and put the play money towards the house fund...

0212353
01-16-2014, 12:00 AM
I've been stashing away money for a year. Got a nice chunk........and now I'm itchin

We'll see what happens.........the garage thing, I'm liking the idea of 3, 2 will work.....but, I'm used to my 2 now........which is 3ft deeper than the one in this place.

Wonder if I can build one out back........LOL

Shop / my garage - yeah, the neighbors would love that.....

myoung84
01-16-2014, 12:08 AM
I found a couple of housing additions that were 1/2 to 1 acre and allow shops. All the houses were 3000+ sq ft 3 car garage full brick houses with a big metal shop behind them. It was awesome but I bet it would be close to $400k once it's all done. Definitely not spending that kind of money on a house.

0212353
01-16-2014, 12:40 AM
400K..........ouch!

Em and I will be diving into the whole house buying extravaganza once we get back from our honeymoon......

Dudes.... I'm getting married in 4 months and 30 days....... Shit.....

We did some looking but it was not in the cards to buy a house before the wedding... 15 grand invested in the wedding right now plus just paid for our 11 day honeymoon for 6 grand.....

This girl is killing me! lol... But I'm excited.... Really excited to buy a house though.. We want to build but don't want to deal with the pain that comes with it so we will probably buy a newer house on some acreage. We'll see.

we are going back tonight.

Running through it again without the kids (couldn't find anyone to watch them yesterday....ugh), and I am going to make for damn sure the truck fits in the garage. LOL

Its 3100 sq ft, which is fn insane. HUGE basement (empty, which I LOVE). Shop for days! ;)

3 bds upstairs, with a family room (love that stuff). Main floor has the master, huge everything........its time guys. I told the wife last night....if the truck fits, we sign the contract. lol

It will. Garage is 22x21. Truck is 19.08 , even with the tailgate down....I should be ok. ;)

the game begins.........

counter offer headed our way. Though, it doesn't seem that far off from what we originally assumed. ;)

(basically.........the cost of 1 pizza per month for 30 years. LOL)

myoung84
01-22-2014, 04:09 PM
Can't beat that! Probably don't need the pizza anyways. LOL

0212353

That actually sounds better than pizza!

And congrats! Just saw the pics, looks like an awesome house! We're going to need to see pics of where the magic happens! (The basement, what were you thinking?) haha

Do you own or rent your current house?

0212353
01-22-2014, 10:43 PM
here's more pics

http://s48.photobucket.com/user/0212353/library/House

basement? YUP! I love working in the basement, and I'll have plenty of room now. I'm going to try to set up an aiming station down there too. ;) That would be killer.

We own the house we are in now. After we move, we need to get some cosmetic BS done to it, and we'll either rent it or sell it. We'll lose our ass.....but, its time to bolt from this mofo.

myoung84
01-22-2014, 10:49 PM
That sucks that you'll take a hit, but sometimes it's worth it. That's one of the biggest hurdles I have with us buying a new house, having to sell this one and risk having two mortgages at once for an extended period. Don't really want that.... We're pretty good equity wise but it's going to be a pain.

Photobucket website is being retarded on my phone, have to look at the pics tomorrow.

And why don't oklahoma houses have basements? Maybe 1% of the houses I've looked at have one. Crazy.

0212353
01-22-2014, 10:57 PM
my brother in Springfield MO.........most don't have basements. Its very common up here though.

Stupid PB.........oh well, I keep looking at them and trying to place a few things and wondering..........errr.........thats a BIG place....lol

Put it into comparison. Our house now......its fn small. I mean......SMALL. 864 sq ft. We have a finished basement (doesn't count in the sq ft). It "works".....and has for the time we've been here. Thats all that matters.........but it was time to go. This one, 3100, again - not counting the basement. I'm ready for it NOW. ;)

myoung84
01-22-2014, 11:51 PM
That's a hell of a jump! You guys are going to be bouncing around like BBs in a boxcar! Lol

0212353
01-22-2014, 11:56 PM
yeah.......we've been "looking" to get out of here for a while.......been lucky with a great year, I stashed a NICE chunk away.....gotta love that shit!

01-23-2014, 07:46 AM
Congratulations Jeremy, really. I thought Sarah, Hunter, and I were cramped in 1100 sqft...864 with two kids!? 3100 sqft means it might be time for furniture shopping soon.

0212353
01-23-2014, 11:09 AM
yeah, we have a full basement, which is where I work......and there's another family room there (not used)...

AND yup, we will be furnishing this one a bit different. Let the fun begin!

01-28-2014, 01:36 AM
They get you coming and going......

This is my first year as an employee...... They pull all taxes out of my checks.. I will prolly still have to pay in but won't be paying in what I use to... Like 15- 20 grand a year lol.

It sucks making money right? Just so someone can come to you (Other than your wife) and demand half....

myoung84
01-28-2014, 07:13 PM
Yep, I get fukked every year. Our household income the last couple years has exceeded the amount allowed to deduct student loan interest. That really pissed me off. And after taxes I get a whopping 60% of my commission checks. Then they still want more.

0212353
01-28-2014, 11:59 PM
I know its a biproduct of having a business..........taxes........but holy mother of fuck.

Doesn't help that we are buying another house, not selling this one just yet (yippie, double mortgage!) and then sock on a huge tax bill? Oh feck. LOL

myoung84
01-31-2014, 05:42 PM
Starting to think about a new house again. Might look into building within the next year or two. We've been looking at a lot of plans lately and I found a builder that has some floor plans that I like. The "Canterbury" is one of them and they have one completed and for sale that I wouldn't mind going to look at. The kitchen doesn't have much storage but we could probably stand to get rid of some crap anyways. LOL.

http://landstarok.com/floorplans/canterbury-plan

http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/6003-S-13th-Pl-Broken-Arrow-OK-74011/89342789_zpid/

The "Westport" is pretty appealing too.

http://landstarok.com/floorplans/westport-plan

I'm being very picky this time around. A three car garage that will hold my truck is going to be required and is non-negotiable. I also want the master and at least two other bedrooms down stairs. All of our bedrooms in the current house are upstairs and it's getting old. We also require a dedicated office as well as a guest room. This plan has a large game room that would also serve as a guest room as well as an additional bedroom upstairs that would be an office. Looking at the pics in the ad the "nook" looks big enough to fit a full size dining table which eliminates the need for the dining room, which could be used for the office; giving us a separate guest room and gameroom upstairs. A downstairs office is also more appealing to me.

My wife also wants separate sinks in the master, said she's tired of sharing a sink. She didn't find it funny when I said that feeling is mutual. LOL. A decent size backyard that I could separate into "dogville" and "kidville" is also needed.

0212353
01-31-2014, 05:55 PM
I like the layout of the second one a LOT better.

I keep looking and going.....where's the basement. Drr...lol

myoung84
01-31-2014, 06:22 PM
I do too. Only issue with that one is there isn't a downstairs office (assuming I could use the nook in the other plan as a dining room).

And yeah, no basements 'round here. I'd love one though.

0212353
01-31-2014, 07:31 PM
is the soil just not good for a basement?

myoung84
01-31-2014, 07:32 PM
I honestly have no idea....

0212353
01-31-2014, 07:36 PM
brother's area is the same........his next house, basement.

Wonder.......they had to move the house a bit, there is a HUGE rock under the soil where he is building.

BMRbrnSNRbrd
02-01-2014, 12:34 PM
The problem for Oklahoma is that there is a lot of water in the soil. Also, the water table is quite high, which leads to quick problems with basement flooding or at least mold/mildew. These factors are what have influenced most building codes in OK which do not allow basements.

myoung84
02-01-2014, 01:02 PM
Well there you go. Makes sense.

0212353
02-01-2014, 02:24 PM

Any other gun guys seen this? I'm thinking the RFID/Biometric one is perfect for my needs:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxEP7U7cp5U

myoung84
02-04-2014, 10:53 AM
I'm thinking the biometric one with the optional RFID stickers would be sweet. I could probably put a sticker between my phone and phone case and open it that way. My wife has been on me to get a gun safe for the room before the kiddo becomes mobile. Storing my hand gun in the big safe is not an option. With this I could also put a few 00 shot shells in the safe and leave the 12 gauge beside the bed too.

I kind of want this truck now! 2014 4x4 Laramie with 3.0L diesel, 3.92s, and air suspension. If I wouldn't loose my ass on the Power Wagon, I'd think a little harder about trading both vehicles on this truck! Sticker price of $54k with 28 MPG highway!

http://images.ascchus.com/?IMG=EAL_IMAGES\2014\images\CC\CC14_DS6P91_2TH_PCL _APD_QS2_XXX_XXX.png&width=700&height=375&AUTOTRIM=1&NOIMG=not_found_Ram.gif

0212353
02-04-2014, 05:45 PM
no.

yeah, its nice........but no.

I have tried to rationalize getting a new truck lately. I don't typically keep a vehicle that long........hell, most I've gotten rid of in 2-3 years. This one is almost 4 now. I'm still under 22K too. ;) But, I can't see it with the new ones. I get a new front bumper, I look like the new ones. The air ride.......spiffy, but not for me. The new interior, thats tits - but.......not to double my payment! lol

0212353
02-04-2014, 05:47 PM
your truck is too nice to trade on that too.

Seriously.

Thats a step down........sure, its a diesel, thats nice. but........eh. do you really need 28mpg? take a while to offset that cost!

myoung84
02-04-2014, 06:08 PM
Damn you! Always coming in to rationalize the situation. LOL.

I don't think I could ever give up having two vehicles. I have a company car but it's still nice to have something that's "yours" that you can do whatever with/to. I just get bored with the truck sometimes because there's not much else that I can do to it that's not absolutely crazy. But what kills me sometimes is that I don't need a truck like this. A 4x4 1500 would do everything that I need and more. This truck is fun for playing around, but I don't have time for that shit anymore. Hell, I don't even ride my ATV anymore. It hasn't been started in at least 8 months.

I just see the amount of money I pay out each month and ask myself why do I have $100k worth of vehicles in the driveway? Cutting back to a single truck with better fuel mileage would save a bunch of money, including car insurance, maintenance, etc. I have to admit, I sometimes regret buying the Power Wagon. I've still got a long time before I pay it off too. If I had a more daily drivable 1500, we could ditch the Jeep and put more money into the house fund. I think the house crap is what's got my mind churning. Nothing is going to change anytime soon though...

you are in a better situation that most bud. Having a company car would be awesome - but I'd still want my own........even if it means that I have 2 vehicles, and the company one....

I dont' need a truck. Hell, my minivan would probably do me better for what I do......but........GAY! so no. Doesn't mean I'll get rid of the truck.......and you shouldn't either. LOL

Trust me, I get the house fund thing man! I have been "better" this year with my spending.....though I still dropped a nice chunk on the truck throughout the year (well......eh). I was thinking about headers the other day and then thought......well, I can get a full bedroom set for that $$. Fuckin' rationalization is a bitch. lol

myoung84
02-04-2014, 06:38 PM
My company car is a 2010 Impala, so it's not like I'm just itching to drive it everyday. LOL.

I'm bad about compulsive buying and that needs to stop. LOL. Example: Sean sent me an email about the release of the Jeep tuning and I ordered it immediately. Wife got a little pissed about that, which I get. Why does her Jeep need more power? It doesn't. I did resist dumping $5k on a supercharger for the truck. I think that was smart. There aren't going to be many mods done this year at all.

I think what has me worried is having two mortgages for an extended period. I really don't want two payments on top of the regular new house expenses. Building a house is even worse. You put down a hefty deposit, get your completion date, and try to time the sale of the current house perfectly. Can't really back out at that point if this house doesn't sell and we have no other options for temp housing if it sells early. Then there's the issue of the equity. I've got some decent equity in this house but will be lucky to break even after all the BS fees, closing costs, commissions, etc. That just sucks.

This year my plans are to update a few things to make it easier to sell. I need a new back fence, need to replace the 80's style counter tops in all the bathrooms with some low cost granite, have the kitchen cabinets refinished, and replace the carpet. I replaced all the appliance recently with stainless and a fancy french door fridge that I plan on leaving, which could help. My goal is to make this house 100% move in ready so I can hopefully dump it quickly when the time comes.

0212353
02-04-2014, 06:44 PM
you want to hear what sucks? ;)

We are about 30K upside down on our current house. Yeah.....so, IF we sell it - write a check. I'm renting this fucker, let someone else pay that mortgage.

2 mortgages, yeah - its going to happen. I'm ready.........and have a nice chunk set aside to assist.

We got our taxes back. Originally........we owed 21K. errr...........hold your ankles buddy! Talked to the accountant, set up a SEP (self employment pension), and it reduced our overall tax burden to around 15K. BUT, I have to put 17K in the pension.....ok, so I'm about 10-11K over on my "spend", but that 17K is mine, and saving that much - it just makes sense. Bad time for it.

Anyway, yeah..........got 20% for the house.......closing costs........all that.......lets just say I'm glad I worked my balls off in 2013, and continuing that now to put us in a nice spot.

When the accountant called me last week, I about shit myself. But.........well..........shit happens right?

I may be driving a 2012 Cummins by the weekend :)

Dealer called me and told me a Cummins came in that would be perfect for me... He offered an awesome deal on trade and the numbers look good for the Cummins.

I think the decision has been made boys, I just haven't told Emily yet... But I will not be out of pocket at all with this trade since I only owe 20k on my current truck.

The thing about this dealer is they actually count my mods towards the trade in value... I was told today if I start pulling stuff off they will start bringing down the trade in value... so I will be taking a few things but the big stuff will stay..

Wheels, Tires, flares... Bumpers... which kills me because I could swap the bumpers and have to only worry about getting a color matched grille. Mirrors, door handles..

I'm taking the cab lights, tail lights bully dog, Catch Can, 87mm TB and a few things to sell that won't be going on the Cummins.

I have heard the same thing... Only issue that I would have is that the nearest fill station that offers DEF is 40 minutes away from where I work in PA... I know in the future stations will start to offer DEF but how long?

I'm not looking to drive 40 minutes each way just to get DEF.

myoung84
02-04-2014, 10:43 PM
Understandable. I'd expect to see it offered at most stations before long since it's being used a lot. How many miles can you get out of a tank?

(S.M.R) 101
02-04-2014, 10:51 PM
I've been hearing every other tank of fuel.

myoung84
02-04-2014, 11:17 PM
That's more than I was expecting. I know it's a much smaller engine but the Jeeps are supposed to get 10k miles out of an 8 gallon tank. That would be a hassle to have to drive 80 miles for fuel every other tank.

(S.M.R) 101
02-05-2014, 12:37 AM
Right. I'm not sure if the stuff I was reading was issue related, most people were saying they were going back to the dealer to see if there were any issues with the DEF tanks or something.

IDK.. I'd rather get a 12' rip all the emissions stuff out, Chip it, Intake it and a few other smaller mods and get awesome MPG's with it. Some guys running these 12's and other Cummins are pulling some awesome MPG's without all the emission stuff.

I have several buddies with diesels ranging from a '97 12v to a 2010 6.4TT powerstroke. Almost all of them can pull at least 20mpg and some up to about 26mpg if they keep their feet out of it. For the extra price if mods you can easily increase your fuel economy to that of a crossover SUV despite driving a 7500+ lb truck :D

Kyle, that cummins would be pretty cool to have! It's a slick truck! Optioned pretty nicely too!

Morgan, I would hate to see the power wagon go but the diesel power magazine test drive reviews of the 3.0 diesel half ton are great! Awesome towing capacity too. It's not exactly a rocket from the factory but there should be some aftermarket performance parts coming out for it before long

myoung84

I am so tired of getting my freaking head bitten off for something I didn't do!!! My wife is driving me nuts lately. I don't know if its the cold weather (I know my mood isn't great when I feel stuck at the house) or what but she is seriously testing my patience lately. I know the first thought is that we've arrived at week four of the month, but that's not the case. I mean, I call her at work about something and get a shitty tone (work related for her, basically most people aren't pulling their weight and she feels the need to try and keep the work done)...I know I'm not pleasant when I'm pissed about something, but son of a bitch! She gets home - grumpy. We go to bed - pissy. She's short with me, short with our son (who's being a real peach lately too). Fuck me running I feel like the only sane one in this home and that's a scary thought!

End rant...maybe.

sounds like its time to drop off the kiddo somewhere, take the wife off and relax.......then come home and get the bullshit out of the way. We are there now too........I'm stressed - working my balls off, she's going crazy thinking about the house(s) and it just......well, is annoying. Put the kiddos to bed early one night and just hashed it out. Communication is key......but I'm preaching to the choir on that one.

Sorry to hear this guys. I think y'alls got cabin fever/seasonal depression real bad. This has been a long, cold, and worse, dry winter for Oklahoma. The lack of Sun and heat makes everyone sick and pissy.
Midwesterners would shrug this off as mild...but the Arizona guy in me hates it. Couple this with a bi polar store manager and the never ending parade of stupidness that walks through our doors, and I'm glad to be home where it's quiet, there's a warm fire in the Franklin stove, and a hot meal on the table.

I saw the truck in person some time ago in Moore. The trippy thing is that when they first get on I40, the exit they pass (Robinson) is my exit for work every morning. Then, they roll into Lawton near the Wichita Mountains. That gas station is our last stop before entering the reserve where we hike (including when we go Saturday) and our first stop out of the reserve once we head home. Trippy seeing so much of home during those shoots.

The upstairs of my house has developed some pretty bad squeaks and creeks over the last couple years. Since I had carpeted floors I didn't think there was anything I could do, short of ripping up the carpet and screwing down the squeaky areas. After hearing my wife complain about it long enough, I started searching for solutions and came across a kit that was supposed to fix this. It consists of a tool that you set on the floor and some special screws that have a breakaway point and finer threads at the top of the screw, which help to pull the subfloor down tight to the joist. It also comes with a screw bit that you chuck up in the drill that only has a few threads on it to help find the floor joists. You screw this into the floor and if it grabs all the way down, you found a stud, it it only grabs the subfloor and then slides freely, you missed it. Just drill every 1" and you'll eventually find it. I had no damage at all to my carpet and it's eliminated every squeak I've attempted to fix. The first couple I tried took about 8-12 screws each to find the squeaky spot but the last one I did got it done with a single screw. Just have to spend some time pushing in the floor to find exactly where it's squeaking at.

http://www.amazon.com/Squeeeeek-More-Floor-Repair-Kit/dp/B0006IK8YE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391781085&sr=8-1&keywords=squeek+no+more

Here's a pic before I snapped the screw off. It leaves no trace of a hole what so ever. I'm 100% satisfied with this kit. Just have about half a dozen more squeaks to fix!

Let the designing begin............

Basement before I start building my shop...

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f210/0212353/House/Basement_Original_zpsb22fcb19.jpg

And after:

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f210/0212353/House/Basement_shop_zps4e88b7cf.jpg

So, my plan is to have a hugeass work area. 4" deep bench (might go to 3", not sure....but yeah). Almost 17ft of area........I'll have the oven under the bench there, so bake and go! Full storage for parts and stuff behind me, and on the wall. There is an existing workbench on the other side of the wall (steps) and that will be used as my packing area. Keeps things nice and separated. More storage by the packing area. Never have too much.........

And, putting in a small bathroom, need a place to shit ya know. "pantry" next to it, something to keep some extra chips, condiments, etc. And.......fill the "voids" in the wall there with even more storage for the wife and kiddos. Still leaves a LOT of room down here (working with almost 1800 sq ft!)

Suggestions? Thoughts?

Looks like a great work space. You should do double wall mounted ovens down there. Don't really need a cook top...

0212353
02-18-2014, 11:08 PM
have you priced those?

I can get a cheapass oven for like ......... 3-400 and call it a day. Takes up less room too.

Well, my 6 year old 61" Samsung LED DLP started developing small white dots all over the place so I just ordered a new one. Seems it caught a case of the TV Pox. I'm a little sad because I actually like my old TV, but I was having a hard time trying to fix a 6 year old TV. I did some Googling and it's a common problem that's caused by a defective DMD chip. Samsung wants $500+ to replace it and I can get a new one for about $250. I thought about fixing it, but who knows how long it would last after that. No telling how much longer the LEDs have left in them either. So, on to Craigslist it goes.

What I bought to replace it is a Samsung 65" 240Hz 3D Smart LED TV. Ordered through Amazon and got free shipping and no tax!

LOL. I'll try it out and let you know what I think! I was also considering the next model down that drops to 120Hz, but figured I might as well spend the extra $400 for a 240Hz. It also a better looking and thinner aluminum frame with a better stand and comes with four pairs of 3D glasses.

myoung84
02-26-2014, 11:12 AM
Yeah, they aren't cheap! I could have gone with a lower end model and saved about $400-600 but figured might as well get what I want. I'm a Samsung fan so I didn't really look too hard at anything else. In the size range I got there are two models below this one and two above it. The top of the line F8000 series is over $3k for a 65"! Ouch!

The F6300 was $1700 and didn't have 3D (which I really don't care about) or Micro Dimming (Which is supposed to make the blacks a lot nicer). The F6400 is $200 more and adds 3D and Micro Dimming. Then the one I got (F7100) jumps to 240Hz and has a nicer bezel. The next two models jump to a Quad-core processor and better Micro Dimming. I decided to settle in the middle...

Lasik surgery went great. Two Ativan didn't do much of anything, but the whole process wasn't bad at all. Nothing hurts but it's a weird feeling. Took less than 2 minutes per eye. My vision today is great, doc said at my follow up this morning that I'm about 20/25 but will be better next week when the swelling goes down. I feel mostly normal today, just kind of feels like you have an eyelash in your eve. Overall, I'm extremely happy with the results so far.

NEVER moving again. Fuck me sideways guys.

So the fun......

Moving wasn't horrible, just time consuming and damnit I'm still sore. Hopped back to our old house last night, to find water in the shop / basement. LOL - got a match anyone? FACK. We turned off the water when we were pulling appliances, and evidently the valve in the main is leaking now. Shut if off again now.....(as we turned it back on before we left), and......yeah. So, get to replace that main now.

I am getting used to the driveway at the new place......damnit its steep.....I haven't parked in the garage yet. Its tight, I don't feel like fucking with it just yet. Truck has sat outside for a few nights. Whats jacked? The first time I've had to use my ice scraper this year.......this morning. Frost. LOL - after all this snow, and I get it on March 17th? LAME.

Internet / phone / TV dude is here now.......so thats spiffy.

Shop builder is going to be here around Noon. Thats another story that I'd rather not get into......

Stressful, but man, the look on my kids face and my wife's comments about the house - totally worth it. Freakin' love the room here, and we'll start furnishing it better really soon.

Painted one room......my 4 year old girl's. Its purple.......weeee!

That's a hell of an upgrade dude, congrats.

My next house will have a three-car garage if I can find one with everything else I want in our price range. It will be hard to go with another two-car though.

On a side note, my next big project starts tomorrow. I'm finally picking up another S-10/Sonoma square body. I had an '84 S-10 as a first truck and have always wanted another square body mini. Sarah and I have the funds now and I found a '93 Sonoma RCSB (my '84 was a long bed) with a 4.3 (mine was a 2.8) and auto. The body is a little rough, but typical for a 20+ year old truck. My plans are probably too ambitious, but it will take a drastic life change for me to ever give this new truck up.

Basically, the Dodge won't be getting a lot done to it other than regular maintenance, detailing, and sitting. The Sonoma runs great so I'll be sticking to either the bike (new one in May or June!) or the Sonoma for a while. It will be good to give the Dodge a rest for a bit. I'll work on a chop of the Sonoma soon to show just how ambitious I am.

03-20-2014, 09:47 AM
Yeah, the garage thing.......it is what it is. I loved the rest of the house, and I think there's room on the side of the garage to build more ;)

Man..........a 350/350 combo in that GMC will rock it man! With the Typhoon body kit? Slick!

The plan is this:

Short-term: clean it up, fix any issues, drive it
Long-term:

Body: Shaved antenna and key lock holes, nothing else. I'm leaving the door handles and tailgate handle alone. Custom paint but nothing wild. Something that says that it's someone's baby without trying to make it look like a brand new truck. The best way to explain it is the way that the Eleanor Mustang is painted. Clearly custom, but not modern.

Suspension: No bags, no frame hacking. Think auto-cross. Big sway bars, coil-overs, dropped about 3/5ish.

Drivetrain: LS1, T56, 4.10s...you know, the simple things.

Interior: Sound that's crisp and clean, probably black but maybe a different color scheme, buckets

So I'm thinking about downsizing again. I keep seeing the money that goes out each month for the Power Wagon and ask myself why. It's costing me about $1200 a month just to own and operate it 1000 miles per month (including payment, insurance, gas, maintenance, etc). I can't give up a truck and I can't give up a good family vehicle. The truck is not a good family traveling vehicle and the Jeep obviously isn't a truck. Keep in mind that I also have a company car that's 100% free to operate. Sure it's a 2010 Impala that has 0 cool factor, but it works and I'm sure my company will roll out some new vehicles before too terribly long.

So crunched some numbers this morning. I'm actually in pretty good shape trade in wise on both vehicles. I'd lose some money on the truck but I could easily make up for it with a partial part out. I'd have to leave the wheels and tires on it but I would strip all the expensive Carli goodies and go back to stock. There's also a lot of other little items that would be worth a few bucks like the on-board air, lighting, headers, stereo, bed cover, tuner, throttle body, etc.

So what would fill the gap from both vehicles? A 1500 diesel. I built fully loaded Laramie, Longhorn and Limited 4wd trucks with the 3.0L diesel and air suspension and they are all in the $56-58k range and I would expect to see about $8-10k off that price. This fills the need for a family vehicle and a truck, and to be honest, the truck actually works better for us for traveling because I have a ton more cargo space with a bed cover. The rough ride and 10 mpg kills it though. So what am I losing? Basically a $1200 per month toy. Sure it's fun as hell to go play around, but I do have a nice ATV that also fills that gap.

What I also lose, and quite possibly the final nail in the coffin, is when I'm in the truck my wife is more or less vehicle-less. She really isn't supposed to drive my company car and quite frankly she wouldn't want to. This wouldn't happen very often, but it would happen. So, as I read all of this again, I realize that it's not really feasible. There's just no way around having a spare vehicle unless my company vehicle was a truck. What I could do is trade the PW in on a less expensive 1500 and still save a few hundred dollars per month, but is that really worth it? To be completely honest, I'm kind of over the whole 2500 thing.

One of these would be a great replacement...

I absolutely hear you about being over the "2500 Thing" I loved my truck so much but it didn't seem logical to keep it..

I tell you what man. after going from the 2500 to this 1500 with all the goodies.... I have not really even felt that really big hole that most people get after getting rid of a truck they spent a lot of time and money on.

I thought about waiting for the eco diesel to come out but the fact that I basically stole this truck from the dealer, I couldn't resist.

Hope it works out for you Morgan!

I'll miss the wagon, but I won't feel bad for letting it go. I'm honestly bored with it. I also don't have the time to do the offroad excursions that I had hoped to do when I bought it. I've half way convinced myself to trade her in, just need to convince the wife. :D

I've talked myself out of the air suspension and I'm still not sure if I'd want the Hemi or Diesel. There's just something about that Longhorn Diesel that's drawing me in. If I got the Hemi it would instantly have headers and a tuner...

Ummm........I know that won't be the out the door price, but FACK

That's fully loaded with the diesel and air suspension. If it's a replacement truck for me, it won't have the air suspension and won't have a sunroof. That will save about $2600. I'd also get the Laramie model since you can't get the longhorn or limited with a bench seat I'm looking at something more in the low $50k msrp.

Alrady pissed the wife off? lol

Emily was actually very supportive of getting back into a 1500.

I did test drive a 1500 with the air suspension.... To be honest... I really didn't feel the difference to offset the price of the air suspension.

I love the Hemi with my current set up with the 3.92 and 8 speed.. I laugh when I stomp it because of the difference from the 2500... And this bitch is still stock! can't wait to start adding stuff to it.

I didn't want a sun roof, but like stated it had it and the price was unbeatable.

myoung84
03-20-2014, 05:51 PM
She likes the wagon because it looks cool, and so do I, but that shouldn't be a reason to keep it. It just plain sucks when traveling. I think I might be happier with the hemi, but I don't want to regret not getting the diesel. I'd never hear the end of it.

03-20-2014, 06:07 PM
It's a tough call man. Are you going to wait to the Eco's hit the lots to test drive one before you decided or will you just take the leap?

Emily loved the way the truck looked.. But she told me "even though it's not the color you want, you will find inexpensive ways to make it into something that looks great like you always do" SCORE!!

She did use the word "Inexpensive" in that statement..... I acted like I didn't hear that though lol.

myoung84
03-20-2014, 06:12 PM
I'll wait for the Eco's to hit the lots first. I wouldn't be afraid to take a leap on ordering a Hemi, but the Eco is a big gamble.

I wouldn't go crazy on a new truck like I did this one. It will get nodded of course, but nothing drastic.

Mods are a lot cheaper too. Anything I do to the truck is at least $2k. Some Bilstien 5100s up front and a stock size Toyo AT2 tire and I'm good to go for awhile.

Speaking of leveling...

I've been reading a lot of things about people running level kits on the 13' thru 14' ram trucks and it is reeking havoc on the ball joints.. I've seen 3 people so far get denied warranty due to adding level kits because it's causing the ball joints to almost pop out of the UCA..

What I have read is that Ram redesigned their UCA's for 13' and up trucks which is why the level kits are starting to cause problems.

You heard anything about this? I guess you would have purchase aftermarket UCA's to balance the 1 to 2" level.

myoung84
03-20-2014, 09:43 PM
I did see this mentioned on RF. Didn't look too deep though. That sucks if you have to buy new UCAs for a level kit. Still far cheaper than what my 2" cost me on the wagon...

Just test drove a 2500 6.4 4x4 and I'm impressed. It was an Crew Cab SLT model and was averaging 15.5 mpg with some aggressive driving. I don't see why it wouldn't get 16-17 mpg highway in stock form, if not better. This one did have the 18's with a 275/70/18 tire (33.2"). It definitely had more power than the 5.7. I think I've talked myself into a Mega Cab 6.4L. If it can do 15-17 mpg highway, that's a hell of a lot better than 10-11...

I liked the 6.4L. It was a beast. I tried the Laramie package Mega and was sold on it.... But I wasn't going to spend the money for one, and I didn't want a 2500 after pondering for awhile.

Now that the motor is getting broken in, This weekend I took a 6 hour trip to Ohio to see the rents and pulled roughly 20mpg.

They are awesome trucks Morgan I say go for it!

See, I want a 1500 but I think I'll regret it later. I really don't know what I want... lol

I really wish I knew what kind of gas mileage to expect with a Mega Cab 6.4L with 4.10s. I see a lot of reports on RF saying 15-18 but that's almost too good to believe. I'd be happy with a consistent 16 mpg...

I think loosing your ass on the $$ side of things........would take a while to recoup from the MPG difference.

Keep what ya got, its bitchin man.

I've been seeing some posts about the mpg's with the 6.4.... I agree with you. You're talking numbers that the 1500's are pulling? idk though. I know the 6.4L have the MDS so maybe the numbers might work out to that.

I don't regret going back to a 1500 but would have loved a mega cab.. just didn't need one.

6 months down.

90 pounds down.

BOOM!

Went for a walk last night with the family. We have a great place here to do that now, its about 1/2 mile walk to the little lake in the middle of the subdivision, so we went down there to feed the ducks and geese. Almost back to the house, there is a trail that goes through the woods - so we went down that too. Its about 1/2 mile as well through it, and only one way back......LOL - right through the same path.

All in all, got almost 2 miles in last night. Lots of hills - it was great. Even raced my kid from the bottom of a hill to the top (to a stop sign). He's 9, runs all the time..........and he only beat me by about 3 feet. He was huffin' and puffin' more than me at the top! But....hey, 6 months ago, I wouldn't have been able to do it!

Then.......hopped on FB last night and found some old pics of me. EEK!

So..........this was last July. Shitty pic......but hey, it shows the awesome figure I was rockin' out....at 305 pounds.

Awesome job Jeremy. I saw those pictures on FB and was blown away. If I hadn't started losing weight again, we would weigh the same right now. I'm down to 202 as of this morning and want to get to 190.

still have it in the works for a 5ft shelf right next to the packing station, and that will complete the main part of the shop. He's getting that done this week, and then starting on my bathroom. ;)

That's one hell of a set up you have.

I kinda wish I would have done something different in the back corner.........but.........water line there is what messed us up a bit.

I wish the last shelving unit was done too - that freakin' receiver is taking up too much room on my packing bench! LOL

But........yeah, 4 Kicker speakers and a yamaha sub I stole from the bedroom - the shop CRANKS! :D Great shit there!

Few more things needed to get it "done". Need some of those mats for the floor......my back is killing me. And, gotta get everything put away now. Then redo it all in 2 weeks when I'm tired of the way the pegboards are set up. LOL

I want an area like that in the large shop I'll probably never have.

0212353
03-30-2014, 09:55 PM
if it wasn't for the headlights, I sure wouldn't have it.

When its done......I've got an area thats 18x12, still have a hair over 7ft between the 2 benches, will have 3 5' shelving units in it (well, 10 and 5).....and some parts storage down at the end of the bench. Oh........and another 15-20 ft between the shop and the bathroom / pantry hole at the other end of the house. Might not put in the shelving in the other area we were thinking of........not sure yet. But yeah, its working out great! having the oven there.....its just.......freakin' awesome.

I think I've narrowed my new truck choice down to two contenders. Both opposite ends of the spectrum too. LOL. I've decided on a Laramie for sure and most likely Granite monotone paint. Option 1 is a 1500 with 6' bed and Eco Diesel and option two is a 2500 Mega Cab with the 6.4L Hemi. I'm leaning towards the Mega Cab but the Diesel has me intrigued with high 20 MPG...
