You could make it work!

Matt
01-09-2013, 08:07 PM
What's the overall width of your 40"? I'd probably have to do some trimming on the plastic but I don't mind that. Only problem with putting it there is it wouldn't be protected at all and it could be very vulnerable to damage offroad.
i will check as soon as i can find my tape measure

I'm a little concerned with putting small ones behind the grille, I think my inserts would block a lot of light. The slats are about a 1/2" wide with a 1/2" space in between. I think I would have to go with a single row light for those.

i think you would be surprised ... but non obstructed would be best for sure i think the 40 at the bottom would be nice

Is it bad I want one, even though it doesnt work for my trucks look?

i was thinking about this earlier for a different truck ... wonder if you put a light layer of tint or that lamix or whatever stuff if it would just blend in behind your grille and be stealth .. think that would be awesome ..:greenchainsaw:

Thats exactly what I was thinking!

You could rock it for sure Dave.

Morgan I did think about putting it in the lower part of the grill but I was also thinking about clearance issues... and with the light bar being that low, would you still get a good output with it being so low?

Matt
01-09-2013, 09:30 PM
i played around with mine and yes while higher works better you can still get good output lower .. just have to angle it a bit different obviously ...

When I was 10 or so....I totally wanted a lowered dually crewcab chevy with the offroad hoop light bars in the bed!

myoung84
01-10-2013, 03:27 PM
Got some scrap wood and made a rough representation of what a 40" light bar would look like. Then did some photoshopping. I don't think I like it and it might be too low for decent light output. It would take some major trimming on the plastic lower bumper to make this work.

Yeah I don't like that either I would figure a way to somehow mount it to that bar securely

(S.M.R) 101
01-10-2013, 04:22 PM
yeah, just needs to be higher.

myoung84
01-10-2013, 04:25 PM
That would put me into a 30" bar. I sort of want to ditch the light bar mount all together but I'm not sure. So confused right now.

Something like this would be cool. These are 12" VisionX lights.

Mounted on the bar or keep what you have.

myoung84
01-10-2013, 06:02 PM
That's what I'm thinking David. A ~30" bar will fit perfect on the bar, it's good height, and no light obstructions.

(S.M.R) 101
01-10-2013, 06:24 PM
Sounds good to me. Just didn't know if you wanted to keep the light bar or not

myoung84
01-10-2013, 06:30 PM
I don't know what I want. LOL.

There's really no other way of getting a decent size light in the truck without leaving the light bar. I like how Matt has a 40 behind the grille, but it won't fit like that on a 4th gen and I really don't want to replace the grille with a full open mouth.

I think the biggest reason I wanted to ditch the light bar was because I really don't like the Hella lights with my new black headlights, too much chrome. Loosing the four 6" chrome lights for a more subtle LED bar will solve that.

I'm currently talking with Jeremy and you might see a Morimoto light bar on the truck soon. ;)

LOL - bye bye lease. HA! Lease is up in April, so I decided now to get out of that and just buy it.

I love it. Flat out.....16,800 miles. I'll be at 18K when her 3 years hits. :D Bottom line, for what the buyout is on her, I'd never find one like this for what I paid. And, she's already "mine" LOL

Yeah, I didn't plan on modding her like I did, but after the first year I kinda knew I'd be buying it. Then when the 13s hit......I knew for sure.

Now the fun part. Warranty. Found a place that I can get lifetime Max Care (100 deductible) for $2300. I can do a 7 year, 60K Max Care (100 ded) for like 1100.......but the 7 years is from the in service date. So, its 4 years and up to 60K, which would be fine.........unless I keep it more than 4 years from now.

Decisions decisions........

Might be buying me a new .45! I have a Taurus 9mm that I carry but have always wanted the .45 version. I have someone that might buy the old 9mm so the .45 is probably in my near future! I'd keep them both, but no sense in having the same gun in two different calibers, the 9mm would never be used. Already have another S&W 9mm too...

Well, went ahead and bought the new 45. Academy and Bass Pro haven't had any in stock for a while and I found a local gun shop that had one left in stock for about $20 more, so why the hell not. The grip is just a hair wider than my 9mm version and the weight is about the same fully loaded. The 9mm holds 12+1 and the 45 is 10+1. Got me 50 rounds of hollow points and 100 rounds of range ammo. Ammo is getting really hard to find, the shelves at Bass Pro were picked clean! Looking forward to going to the range! The second pic below is comparing 9mm Luger to 45ACP, FMJ and JHP in both flavors. It's a big ass bullet!

Pricing for the 2014 Grand Cherokee was released today. I opened up a spreadsheet and started plugging in numbers. These are all 4x4 with the Hemi and the same basic options. With the options I have chosen there's not really a lot of difference in the three models aside from appearance. I think I like the Overland the best, it has some nice color matching and good looking wheels. I'm interested in seeing what invoice pricing is on them. I've read that if you spend the $100 to become a member of Tread Lightly, you can get all the Jeeps except the SRT for 1% below invoice.

Limited: $47,260
Overland: $50,370
Summit: $53,180

And now for the shocker. The SRT8 with the higher end stereo, dual pane sunroof, and tow package is $69,365! I cannot believe they are charging nearly $20k for the damn 6.4L. :321:

The "Oklahoma 2nd Amendment Preservation Act" is now working its way through the Oklahoma legislature.

Introduced by state senator Nathan Dahm, this legislation puts Oklahoma shoulder-to-shoulder with Wyoming and Texas by putting federal gun-grabbers in check.

The language of the legislation is clear: "Federal acts, laws, orders, rules, regulations, bans or registration requirements regarding firearms constitute an infringement on the individual right [to keep and bear arms] in the Constitution of the United States...and are hereby declared to be invalid in the State of Oklahoma."

The legislation mentions the "intent" of America's "Founders" and the Constitution's "ratifiers," and sets forth the punishment for trying to enforce new gun control measures:

Any official, agent, or employee of the United States government or any employee of a corporation providing services to the United States government that enforces or attempts to enforce an act, order, law, statute, rule or regulation of the government of the United States in violation of this act shall be guilty of a felony and upon conviction...shall be punished by imprisonment in the custody of the Department of Corrections not to exceed five (5) years.

After reading this legislation, only one word comes to mind--FREEDOM.

David, what rom and kernel are you running on your S3? My wife has the AT&T version of the S3 and it's not nearly as smooth as my phone and the battery life sucks. How's your battery life compared to stock?

Spent some more money that I probably shouldn't have.

First, I finally found me a safe that I liked. I wanted a safe in my office closet to tuck into the side, which is exactly 24", and I didn't want to drop a grand on it. Finally found this one from Dick's that's 24" wide and it's a perfect fit. Still not cheap at $550, but it's nice and it's fire rated. Some of the others I found were closer to the 18-20" range but there was no center divider with shelving on one side, which I wanted for pistol and ammo storage. This one's advertised as a 16 gun capacity, but with the shelving on one side and having realistic sized guns, I could probably only get about 5-6 in there on one side. Here's a pic of it in place. It's even wiener dog approved!

http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/i360/myoung84/20130121_194345.jpg

Then I decided what good is a gun safe without a long gun in it? So I decided that I must purchase the Mossberg shotgun that caught my eye earlier that day. It's a Mossberg Flex 590 Tactical. It was sitting in the showcase with a price tag of about $725 but that included an attached flashlight and the HiViz sight. The flash light was pretty cool, but I wasn't will to pay the extra $200 for it so I had them take it off. The Flex series is pretty cool. This one has the adjustable stock but can easily be changed to a different stock or pistol grip.

Not to change the subject, but someone needs to take away my damn check card. Just ordered a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 from Buds gun shop. Another $600. Buds Gun Shop is stupid. I ordered my S&W M&P 15-22 last Thursday all they had available was the base model and the A1 style with threaded barrel wasn't in stock. Well now it is and I called to see if I could change it and pay the $30 difference. It's not a big deal to me if it has the threaded barrel or not, but I figure that would be worth the few extra bucks. They want to charge me a 10% restocking fee even though the gun hasn't shipped! I paid with an e-check so they won't have the money until sometime this week, yet they say my gun is already reserved and cannot be upgraded to the higher model without forking over an extra $60. Even after my money has cleared the bank later this week, it's still 9-15 days before it ships!

I can understand the restocking fee if I send it back once I have it, but not for something that's not paid for and won't even ship for another 2-3 weeks! Am I crazy for thinking of this as poor customer service? I don't mind that it's going to take nearly a month to come in, but to charge me a fee for something that they know damn well will be sold again by the end of the day is BS...

Venting over. I'll enjoy my non-threaded barrel 22 just as much.

that sucks man .. side note i just bought my first pistol tonight .. .45 springfield xdm i can't wait to go shoot it

I really like the springfield xdm. Start stocking up in ammo now, it's getting hard to find. Can't good ammo online anywhere either. I backordered 500 rounds of CCI Blazer last night from Brownells. Not sure if or when it will come in, but the price was much better than I'm finding locally. Since they let you place a backorder, I would imagine it would ship within a few weeks or so. Use promo code DUT for $5 shipping. Also backordered 5250 rounds of 22LR for about $200...

They finally emailed me back a few minutes ago. I already talked with them yesterday, but I thought I give them a piece of my mind over email this time. Take that bitches! Also keep in mind that I almost bought this same gun before Christmas for $499. They already jacked up the price $100 because of the current situation.

Dear Joshua Young:

We can change your order if you prefer, although there is a 10% change order fee per the order agreement and our Terms & Conditions, please let us know how you would like to proceed and we will be happy to take care of you.

James,

I spoke with someone on the phone yesterday and I guess I'll leave the order as is, although I don't agree that me paying a 10% change order fee is good customer service on your end. I sent the e-check last week so you don't even have my money for this order yet and whomever I spoke to yesterday said it would take another two weeks to ship out after my e-check had cleared. If my name is already locked to this particular gun, why does it take an additional two weeks to ship? I'm not at all concerned about the ship date, but for me to request an upgrade to a gun that wasn't available at the time I placed my order shouldn't cost me an extra $60.50. I somewhat agree with a paying your 10% "fee" if I were to cancel my order in full, but it seems wrong what you are doing for a simple change like this. I guess since business is good right now why try to make the customer happy?

Thank you,
Joshua Young

Just got off the phone with Barry Sanders Supercenter in Stillwater. They treated me very well on my Power Wagon so I'm giving them the first shot on a new Jeep GC Overland. I gave them the list of options I wanted and she is supposed to call me back by Monday to let me know what they can do. I told her I would need about $5k off sticker in order for me to proceed, which still makes it a $47k vehicle.

Wife's not too happy, but I think she'll like it once the baby comes. Anyone want to buy a low mileage SRT8 Super Bee Charger? Like seriously? :D

Fucking extended warranty company...

When I changed Sarah's oil the last time I removed the engine beauty cover and forgot to reinstall it. When I drove the car the next day, the amount of valve ticking noise was horrendous. It was most likely being insulated by the beauty cover, which does have noise dampening material on it's underside.

Anyway, we dropped her car off yesterday because it's covered under an extended warranty until 90k miles and we're only at about 56k. Today, they called me and told me that two of the rocker arms were damaged which caused damage to other parts. This shouldn't be a problem as he said it just seems like they failed and all internall lubricated parts are covered under our warranty.

However, the dealership told me that the extended warranty company told them that they will not cover the repair until they send their own representative out to check it out and verify the damage and also th check the lubrication. I'm assuming they want to make sure that the oil is changed regularly. That's the part that scares me. I do change it on a regular basis but I feel like this leaves the door open for them to simply deny the claim.

On top of all that, we are only covered for five days of rental reimbursement. If I get Sarah a rental on Sunday evening, I'll burn two of the five days before the inspector even gets there, let alone however long the repair will take.

I'm irritated.

0212353
02-08-2013, 01:57 PM
what company is that through?

BMRbrnSNRbrd
02-08-2013, 02:04 PM
MAPS is the company.

This is purely a lack of knowledge, but how quickly does gunk form? I mean, does going over a bit cause it or is it only if your completely ignore maintenance?

DoubleTakeDodge
02-08-2013, 02:14 PM
You don't get build up by going just a little over. Oil changes are recommended every 3,000 miles because the oil most times is good for 4,500 or 5,000 miles. Good, premium synthetic up to 10,000 in some cases. As long as they were done on time or only shortly thereafter the suggested mileage you shouldn't have any trouble, especially considering how new the car is and much more efficient than older models in terms of engineering.

BMRbrnSNRbrd
02-08-2013, 02:17 PM
Thanks dudester. The most recent change was the longest her car went without a change and that was about 5k miles. We don't use anything fancy in her car, just Castrol GTX.

0212353
02-08-2013, 02:26 PM
5k you are more than fine

15 years ago I worked at Ford, the parts truck got it at 10-12K each time. Never an issue......and we (I) dogged that thing and it wasn't like all the miles were highway...

DoubleTakeDodge
02-08-2013, 02:27 PM
That's still a good oil. You should be good for at least 5k miles before the oil was actually bad, plus time on top of that for anything to build up and form. And with as well as cars are designed to fight buildup and everything now, you shouldn't have a problem. For the future though, I would recommend oil additive if you plan to hold out til close til the end of the oil life, just as a precautionary measure.

BMRbrnSNRbrd

David,

Same thing happened to my sons first car. Bought it usd at Bob Howard Honda, and tranny went out. Tranny shop called them, they said they had to send a rep by to look. It was only like 2 days and he came by, sure enough, tranny was out and approved payment. If you have the first 5 days, and no rep comes by, you can argue that it wasnt your fault for delay and get more days covered.
Thats why on some of the other forums guys say they change their own oil, whcih is totally fine. But this is also why I have dealer do it since this is my first brand new truck personally, so I know they can't blame anyone but themselves. All records and mechanicals were done by them. To me, worth not having the hastle...plus, I still have several free oil changes to use. And by the way I drive, less than 7000k a year, I will never pay for oil change until I trade it in. :D

(S.M.R) 101
02-08-2013, 06:03 PM
That has always been my fear, that if anything happened to the truck and and I needed warranty, I do all the maintenance work on the truck. So there is never any service record.

I keep all maintenance work done by me wrote in the RAM book. But then again how would they know if I didn't just write it in after any damage was done..

But your fine D. Man like everyone said you have some wiggle room with oil changes.

I've given up on the dealer in Stillwater, they don't know what the hell they are doing. They seem to think that they can't place an order for a 2014 JGC and they won't have it until the end of the year.

Chris Nikel is out. Hate them anyways, bunch of dicks. They offered to sell at invoice price and won't come off of it. Never got a reply from South Point. I guess they are out... I'm currently going back and forth with Bob Moore. Their first offer was actually not too bad, but we're still about $1000 off. I've already mapped out the route. I'll run about 12 hours first day, stay somewhere in Ohio, run the rest of the trip the next morning, meet you around noon, have some fun, and I'll head back that night. I can leave on a Friday and be home by Sunday night. I'm free next weekend, so she could be driving it a week from tomorrow! :D

I didn't see the order before I ran out to work this morning (too busy LOADING the truck!) - so I'll get the Fukken and fogs out from my warehouse tomorrow. The HIDs should ship tomorrow / Wednesday. Those guys are getting murdered lately on the weekends..........and Mondays SUCK for them. I put the drop ship order in this morning at like......9. They didn't get that far on shipping today.

Can't say I'm surprised, I put in 8 orders this morning with Retro-Solutions, and looking back at my order number from an order Friday night..........they took in about 100+ orders this weekend. EVERYONE is busy it seems! Good stuff!!!

interesting indeed..

James, this is a kit car and is built when requested from the dealer, from what I understand. It starts out as a plain SS camaro then everything added.

I'm not going to lie............ In person, I kinda liked it... But I have always been a fan of the Trans AM "Smokey and the Bandit" style..

DoubleTakeDodge

That is the Z/TA upgrade for the 2013+ Chevy Camaro 7T7 retro appearance package. The regular 7T7 package comes with chrome grille and bumper pieces, the Z/TA is basically the sport upgrade. It's much the same as the ram runner platform in that it is a factory upgrade package that can be either ordered for the 5th generation Camaro to be installed by a person or shop or by a dealership. The package costs $8500. They also have a 6T9 appearance package that resembles a GTO rather than a Firebird or TransAM. Just as the 7T7 has the Z/TA upgrade, the 6T9 has a GOAT upgrade that fiches the chrome pieces to resemble a "Judge" model GTO. A pic of the 6T9 GOAT package for the 2013+ Camaro is below.

Yeah, I saw a magazine article in HotRod a little while back and just looked up another article on it. I knew it wasn't actually a new make, just an appearance package for the Camaro.

My wife is crazy.......she lets me talk myself out of stuff.

I was bs'n with her about the RIPP deal. 4K on a go fast goodie? For my 3 mile drive to work? dafaq is wrong with me? LOL Notta......

In a 12 month span, the truck had 3 different sets of wheels and tires. Not a blink.

Then last night she looked at me and said she wanted some cheap ring ($90?) with the kids names on it. I said "ok". She said.......buy it for me. LOL - she slapped me for my response "I don't know your ring size".
