And Kyle, that would be so bad ass!

Dude, if it is financially possible, I think you ABSOLUTELY should. However, I would not leave one thing on the old truck. Swap the hoods, grills, cab lights, etc etc etc.

I tried it with some white plastidip and wasn't too impressed. I'd get the bumpers powder coated.

I also tried plastidip on my bumpers and I wasn't impressed with the look. It looks good on my grille, but not so much on the bumpers. You can get the front and rear powder coated for about $200. Then try plasti-dip with glossifier on the grille.

I would swap everything over...... I might leave the wheels and tires because I think I found another set that I want.. But other than that everything would be switched over..

I have my dealer contacting that dealer to get some more info and numbers and shit. We will see :D

So......you can hide this from the "wifey" as they are so close? LOL

(S.M.R) 101
03-18-2013, 06:40 PM
Believe it or not guys...... I really think I could hide this from her... Until she seen the Cummins badge.... You know I would leave that on the truck :D

My only issue is that "I Know" one of the first things I am going to want to do is rip out that exhaust and DPF but being in NY I would fail inspection if that was removed. (In NY if you go for inspection and they see that the DPF has been removed they will not pass you for inspection and I heard that they have to report the VIN and owner if this is removed)

So that is really killing me..... I could get the truck and then register it in OK again but I would be double taxed if I did this and that would really suck...

Kinda torn guys

Two words kyle.. remove and replace..

1Tuff6.7
03-18-2013, 07:41 PM
But if you are going to delete it you better do it fast. I was in a diesel shop here last Friday and they had a mini maxx 1500 dollars. I only gave 950 for mine. Nobody is making DPF delete tuners anymore but you can still find a few floating around and I've heard the last run that H&S did add a bunch of software issues because of them trying to get them out the door as quickly as possible do to EPA pressure. I think it would be a badass truck though dude for sure. You could always stealth delete it just hollow out the Dpf the NO x filter and the cat and run it like that with a muffler and no inspection shop would ever know the difference just put it on the low power setting when you have to do a smog test and that should get you by. If you do decide to do it hit me up man if you have any questions I live and breathe this stuff

myoung84
03-19-2013, 10:42 AM
You know Kyle, I would consider waiting for a 2013 with urea injection. I think on a truck that you don't plan on deleting, the urea would be much better than the DPF system. And the interior on the 2013's is pretty sweet.

1Tuff6.7
03-19-2013, 11:36 AM
There are pros and cons to urea. From what I've seen in my work truck which is a 6.7 powerstroke and my dads 2012 duramax, the mileage is better (about 17 both are 4wd) however, the money you spend on DEF is nearly equivalent to the extra money you'd spend on fuel in a non def truck.

If it was me, I'd buy one and delete it while you can for two reasons,
1. A deleted truck is more reliable basically because your engine isn't eating its own crap.
2. Because if I can't hear my cummins then I'd just as well drive my suzuki..

myoung84
03-19-2013, 11:46 AM
Good points! I wasn't sure on the DEF cost, but I didn't think it was that bad. I know that the 3.0L diesel that will get stuffed into the Jeep GC and Ram 1500, the tank they include is supposed to last 10k miles, but I don't know how big it is. I'm sure the Cummins uses at least 2-4 times that amount...

0212353
03-19-2013, 02:44 PM
kyle, just keep your truck.

Son of a Bitch! I called Jeep to see why my vehicle that was built on the 13th hasn't been shipped yet. She was actually nice and very helpful. Unfortunately, she told me "Congratulations, your Jeep was selected for a vigorous 100% quality inspection." I guess it's a good thing, but means that it won't be here anytime soon. She said it would ship out on the 30th, so hopefully I can have it by the week of the 8th...

Bahahahahhaahhaahahaha!!!!! You better have some reeeeeeal deep pockets. I've been looking for the same thing for years.
If its cheap, its got 400, 000 miles on it. If it doesn't have 400, 000 miles on it, they want $400, 000 for it...

That's the best part about working in Oil & Gas.. All these guys drive Cummins trucks (Most of them) and are always looking to get rid of them for the next better thing..

And I talk with a lot of landowners who have diesel truck and sometimes have no need for them anymore. If I kept my eye out i'm sure I could get one but the Mrs. would kill me if I had 2 trucks.. "Fact" like, really kill me.

Rockin'

Well.........I found my next mod. :D:D

I hired another painter this weekend, and...he does hydrographics. His dipping setup is fucking amazing.......

I'm going to dip the interior parts that are silver in my truck. Still undecided on the chrome trim on the shifter.....might leave that alone.

But, I am not a fan of camo, skulls, fire, etc -the typical stuff that is dipped, but....this one caught my eye, just a simple raindrop. :D

http://www.watertransferprinting.com/mobile_site/galleries/designer_gallery/content/bin/images/large/_1540161113.jpg

Hoping to get those done in the next few weeks and then get pricing up for it! ;)

03-25-2013, 10:36 AM
no, thats ghetto. LOL

I want to get mine done, then run a deal for the first 5 guys on their trucks.

But, wanting the dipper to get used to what we have here, sizes, time, etc. SO many fucking variations on these its CRAZY.

Whats nice, we have silver in the truck. That makes a great base for a LOT. But, if we wanted to go with a different color (like a black carbon fiber, they'd have to be painted first), then there is matte or regular clear, and options for candy....holy nuts.

This is some amazing shit, blows me away....

And, its not just interior stuff that can be done. We can do wheels, grills, door handles, hell - almost anything that can be dipped in water. Headlights might be fun.......as the curvatures for the turn signal area - just depends on how forgiving the film is. I can see us dipping some shrouds, but not the entire bezel (who knows though)

03-25-2013, 10:37 AM

myoung84
03-25-2013, 10:48 AM
Hmm, depending on price, I might consider dipping the silver parts in my truck. Just don't know what will look good with the two tone dash. I had this same interior in my 2010, and after about 3.5 years with the same interior, it's getting a bit boring to me.

I hear ya........

pricing is going to be FUN. I'm trying to ensure that he gets what he needs on this, and there is SO much variation on pricing from what I've seen. :wtf:

A deer skull at one place is $45, another $175.

Strictly preliminary.....but I'm hoping to keep the 4th gen interior kit under $400, which would include the center console (both parts), the chrome trim ring, and the 2 side vent parts. That would include shipping and stuff too. After he does mine we'll nail it down, and I'll probably do a group buy on the first 5. :Jedi:

My Jeep finally left OKC at 1:00 today! Went to the dealer at lunch and got pretty much all the paper work done. Once it gets in they will do the PDI, clean it and gas it up and it's mine! What I don't know (and neither does the dealer) is where on the car hauler my Jeep is located. I sure hope it's not on the front and they have several other stops to make first.... This thing is absolutely awesome! The Hemi and 8 speed are a great combination and moves pretty good. It's not as fast as my SRT Charger that it replaced, but I have no complaints. Interior is top notch and the copper trim is not nearly as bad in person as they are in pics. I actually like the look better than silver. I got the UConnect registered online but haven't played with it too much. The shifter is a little weird, but I got used to it very quick and actually kind of like it. It only had 15 miles on it when I got to the dealer. I figured it would have much more than that since I was selected for the vigorous quality audit. Had about 50 miles on it after driving around last night.

Only quirk I had was with the Quadra-Lift. I was playing with it in my driveway and lifted it to ORII and it wouldn't come back down. I ended up having to drive around the block for it to lower. I'll play with it some more and see if it happens again. In all honesty, ORI and II will never get used, so it's not a big deal. The park mode and aero mode seemed to work fine.

My Oil Catch can goes on tonight and the Magnaflow exhaust will go on very soon. Here are some crappy cell phone pics. I'll post more soon.

The dealer texted me as soon as the truck got there. I was only a couple miles away so I stopped by and snapped a pic.

Simple enough.. Your flux capacitor tripped the main apex tact-tron which caused your atrium sublet inadvertent return to clash with the ambit energy which is causing the squeal..

I think a little exhaust bearing fluid will do the trick :D

0212353
04-26-2013, 10:22 PM
no, simple enough........

I took it somewhere, now my 5 channel amp is toast and my "little" bit of alternator whine is now what you hear there. I can't even drive it, it makes me bonkers........

So, here's what they were supposed to do:

Remove 10" box with CVX sub
Install FoxBox with 2 10" CVXs
Install 1200.1 amp
Run new 4 gauge for the new amp.
Possibly install new RCAs (that I've had for a long time......and never got to)

What they did:
Fried my 1000.5
Gave me a loaner amp while I get my 1000.5 cared for
Gave me ghosts in the speakers.

Can this happen if they crossed a wire? Like a signal wire ground is in the positive?

myoung84
04-27-2013, 10:03 AM
That shouldn't happen, but anything is possible. It's really hard to fry an amp since everything should be fused. Not sure what they did.

0212353
04-27-2013, 10:29 AM
I don't know....

Well, I know this - I'm going to send the 1000.5 to Tracy, I'm sure he'll have a pretty good idea what happened to it.

If I get some time, I'm going to take a look at each door - see what one is making the noise. I think its the driver's front......eh.

Matt
04-27-2013, 01:00 PM
Can this happen if they crossed a wire? Like a signal wire ground is in the positive?

when you start adding multiple amps and running rca's and power wire all over the place you can pick up sound pretty easy did you use those dual twist rca's i gave you? hard to hear exactly whats going on in the video but just from hearing you turn it up doesn't sound like the subs get loud at all? if that's the case it really sounds like one might be backwards polarity this is why i don't let any audio shops touch my stuff nobody seems to care about their workmanship anymore especially if they didn't make the money off the product

1) kicker amps tend to pick up sound easier than other amps on the market for some reason - don't really know why but i've installed them for over 5 years and had more issues with them than any other amps combined
2) check polarity on subs - you can look at the subs or feel them and when the bass hits make sure they are going the same way if they are both going out or in at the same time you're good - if you have a ton of output then don't worry about this step
3) check your grounds - they don't seem like they care enough to do a good job the first time so having them fix their mistakes is probably asking too much plus you'll know exactly what was done a proper ground uses atleast the same size wire as your power with as short of a run as possible, scratch the paint until you get bare metal and shoot 2-3 self tapping screws into the terminal i normally do 1 in the eye of the terminal and then 2 into the body of the lug that way it can't move at all and creates a really good ground

try the amps first and if you still have sound you can try several things
try isolating the power and signal (rca) wires farther apart and only cross them at 90 degree angles
don't attach the amps directly to metal - if you can't help that use thick rubber washers or a piece of wood under the mounting legs
try grounding your deck to a proper ground ( not in the harness - to a good bare metal ground)
also try grounding the case of the radio to the same ground
if this doesn't work you can try grounding the outside part of the rca ends - but you have good rcas so i would do this last

you dont' have to do everything just do one at a time until you fix the sound .. the fact that you had a sound already in the system and then added a second amp and it got worse doesn't surprise me at all .. that's to be expected there was an issue from the beginning and you added to it .. but should be able to fix it with those steps

0212353
04-27-2013, 01:41 PM
I appreciate the info!

The RCAs are actually kicker RCAs too. I lost yours somewhere.... shit is all over the place here in the shop.

Bottom line, these guys are going to fix it. If I wanted to deal with the fun, I would have saved the money and did it myself. But, at the end of the day, I paid them.

I had a little bit of alternator whine when it started. This shit its doing now......is pathetic.

And, I think right now, I'm running on a Kenwood 4channel loaner amp. And the 1200.1 for the subs.

They are getting loud, not sure if its as loud as I expected (more than doubling my wattage and replacing 1 sub to 2).

ARGH..

But, when I get the new amp in, they are handling this. I simply don't have the time to dick with it. What I paid them yesterday to install the stuff I offset by selling 3 sets of 2013 Ram headlights. Drop ship them, move on. :D:D

Its weird........if its WAY up loud on some rap or some shit, when it hits, the 4ch cuts off for about 10 seconds. 0212353
07-10-2013, 03:46 PM
yeah, its not bad. Granted......I wish it was cheaper.

BUT, I literally have quotes here ranging from $400 all the way up to $700.

All of the places go by the book time, but there are SO many options on it.
- Skidplate?
- Dual exhaust (makes no sense, the f'n exhaust is the same up to the muffler, and I know you don't have to take anything off after the muffler).

So, the guy I felt the most comfortable with got the job. I talked him down a bit too.....that always helps. In the end, the hours are 4.1 to remove / reinstall tranny. 1.2 extra for 4wd. .2 to swap the converter. .4 for the exhaust. So......5.9 hours. The shop's hourly rate is $100 an hour. I told him he wasn't the cheapest, but he was close and I'd rather do the job close, never know what I'll need done next. He asked me what quote I got that was better. Told him "this asshat in St Charles (town over) quoted me $450". He matched it. ;)

The $400 quote I got was from the guy that questioned EVERYTHING, and I wasn't going to have him do shit to the truck.

Thanks again guys! She was mostly named after my grandpa Carl but the other Carli had a little influence on the spelling, we just like how it looked. I will tell you that the name "coincidence" certainly made it a lot easier for my wife to approve on over $3k in Carli parts. Lol

verter is in!

I haven't dropped the hammer from a full dead stop yet..........I want to do that where I'm not around a bunch of people.......or cops.

On the highway, getting on it, she shifts a LOT better, quicker, and the RPMs don't drop nearly as much. (hell, on the regular shifting not on the highway either).

I used to have a weird 1-2 shift that you could literally feel the truck almost "stop" and go. Not anymore.

but, one thing I have to get figured out.......and its something that I needed to look into for a while now.....around 35-40mph the truck seems to be searching for a gear. My 3.92s didn't do this.......3.55s, yeah. I'm kinda torn. At 35MPH, in 3rd, I'm around 2200RPM. Thats a bit high for piddling around town.....in 4th I'm around 1400-1600ish.

Hard call, something I'll need to play with there.

Great news on the TC! I really want a new one.

You're running a hemifever tune aren't you? Can he not tune out that trans issue? I know you could with SC...

0212353
07-20-2013, 10:40 PM
I'm going to ask him about it. I am sure he can......

The TC is pretty sweet, but I'm second guessing the costs (mainly install, etc). Don't get me wrong, its nice - but......at the end of the day it was a grand out of pocket for it. And, I am pretty sure I have an exhaust leak now, so I have to go back and have them fix that...

BMRbrnSNRbrd
07-21-2013, 11:23 AM
That's why I prefer home installs. Installing one of those isn't too hard and you save a fortune. However, I know you are strapped for time more than anything.

0212353
07-21-2013, 11:30 AM
yeah.....but at the end of the day, I look at how long it would have taken me. book time on it was almost 6 hours. So, that equates to JJ time of 10-12. If I have an "extra" 10-12, I'm going to be in my shop easily making more than the cost of the 'verter install.

I kinda wish I had the time to do it, learn it, etc - but.....it would have probably just sat here like other mods I have in my mind (MY own freakin' headlights.....awesome to run around on stockers! LOL)

07-24-2013, 06:24 PM
Same here. I can buy the generator at cost which makes it a little easier. Since we probably won't be in this house too much longer I didn't think it was great idea since it might be hard to get the money back out of it. Next house will definitely have one.

We're up now though. Ran about 8 hours on generator back feeding through a "welder plug" I installed under my breaker box. Works like a charm. ;)

Anyone that's interested in a generator let me know and I'll shoot you over a quote. We keep most of the residential stuff in stock at our Little Rock corporate office and will soon start stocking Tulsa as well as OKC when that office is built. You'd then need an electrical contractor to install it for you and one of our techs will come start it up.

Just thought I'd share my experience with Viair's warranty. I have two 400C compressors mounted to the outside of the frame rail on L brackets. Before I installed, I called Viair to double check that it was ok to mount under the truck and they said yes, it's a sealed unit and as long as the vent tube is routed to a dry location, it's fine. They won't be harmed if they get wet, just don't submerge them. Well, a while back I flipped them on and shortly after I heard a pop and one compressor went down. I called Viair and they gave me an RGA number and said send it back and they'll take care of me.

Earlier this week I finally get a call from them and they tore it down and it was full of water with a burned up motor and broken connecting rod. They said the fitting for the check valve had scratches on it and that they would not replace or repair it under warranty. I had a serious problem with this answer. How the hell are you supposed to tighten the fittings with a wrench and not scratch the cheap chrome plating? I escalated my call and finally talked with someone higher up that initially gave me the same answer. Then they started pointing to the fact that they were installed under the truck and that had to be why they got water in them. I had to remind them that I called and asked this very question and was given the green light. Yes, they have been splashed with water which I was told was acceptable, but they have never been submerged.

After standing my ground and reasoning with the guy, he finally agreed that he personally felt this was on them and should be fixed under warranty but would need to have some more people take a look first. They eventually called back and said they would be repairing and replacing parts at no cost to me. Turns out it was most likely a faulty check valve that allowed moisture to build up inside the unit and ultimately caused the problem. Apparently if you tighten the check valve fitting to the air line fitting with real tools and scratch the chrome plating, this renders the check valve useless. Sounds to me like they need to upgrade to a higher quality check valve.

They still weren't 100% sure that this was the cause, but whatever. Since the other compressor is fine and moisture free, I have a hard time believing it was my installation. The air inlets are at the middle of the tank so it's not like the lines are at the bottom of the tank collecting all the water in the tank. I also periodically drain the tank and cycle the compressors to keep out all the moisture I can and I always get a very minimal amount of water vapor from the drain, never any pooling water.

At the end of the day I still won, but I don't feel I should have had to fight that hard. Anyways, just thought I would share my negative experience with Viair.

what are you looking for price on the set you have now Morgan?

myoung84
08-30-2013, 11:50 AM
I was probably going to toss them on craigslist for $2200 and go from there. To get all 5 new with shipping, mounting and balancing, and the TPMS sensors you're looking at about $2400. They have about 10k miles on them so I think maybe around $1800 is fair. You interested in them?

Here's a couple of the the chops of the wheels. Tires are MT's and I ordered AT's.

Damn dude.... didn't go with the ST/Maxx?
I like the ST/Maxx but they don't make it in a 35. Sucks because that would be a great alternative to the Toyo.

2 month backorder..............wow, they are either doing something right (great tire), or something horribly wrong (lack of production!) lol

I think they are doing it right, but our fearless leader is jacking shit up again. This was posted over on the Power Wagon Registry. Not sure his source but it seems like something NObama would do. The Toyo MT is just as hard to get.

Toyo got in a legal battle with Yokahomo tires over a shared USA facility for making tires and lost their right to make the tires in the USA.

TOYO’s were being made in Japan.

Now the new OBAMA tariff is on Tires made in China. At a rate of 37%.

So most of the tire companies that were setup in China selling tires to USA..think they will move the plants to USA now? .. No way.. They are ALL moving their plants to Korea where this 37% OBAMA tariff does not effect them.

So while all this relocation is going on.. Very few tires are currently available in ANY brands.
