AMEN. I have to Rhino Line the rocker panels because rocks have absolutely destroyed the paint on the rockers

Got an estimate today to properly repair the dent and paint. They have to repaint the entire hood and put new stickers on. Total price, $1330.27. New bottle of touch up paint is $11.34. I don't mind the dent so much now...

I used to have a lower deductable but its a big jump from $500 to $250 so I just stick with that.

Lol. If this was my old truck I would tell my wife this one needs to be replaced and get the ram air hood, but I actually like this hood...

If the touchup paint doesn't hide it well enough for your taste you should consider one of these! Not terribly expensive and helps to geep the windshield cleaner as well

I am thinking of keeping it black and not doing the white at all, I like the way it ties into the flares and black under the headlights.

I might black out the headlights instead of my original storm trooper idea? Decisions, decisions...

Or compromise? lol

Finally got my front camera worked out. Wired it up so that when I hit the button on the dash, the truck thinks it in reverse and switches to the backup camera. I have the rear camera powered from the reverse lights and the front camera powered from the relay controlled by the switch. Had to use 2 relays to get this to work. Both video cables are run to a standard RCA splitter and feed the reverse camera input on the headunit. I ended up having to order a new camera since the cheap Amazon cameras I have are a mirrored image output, which doesn't work so well when you put it on the front of the truck. I ordered a Crimestopper camera from SonicElectronix and it works great. It doesn't have night vision so night time isn't too great, but that's not what I bought it for. This camera has a wire you can cut to switch from mirror image to standard image so it can be a front or rear camera. It's also much smaller than I thought it would be.

Only issue I have is when I have the front camera enabled and put the truck in reverse, the screen freaks out since 2 live video sources are being fed into the same input. I plan to fix this eventually but will require me to do some more wiring and add a 3rd relay to cut power to the front camera when the truck's in reverse. For now I will deal with the minor issue since I don't want to crack open the dash again for the 12th time.

I took the truck up a steep hill near my house and it works great. Normally when climbing this hill all you see is blue sky and don't know when you will hit the top. With the camera on, you can see exactly what's in front of you. Also, the viewing angle on this one is much wider than my reverse camera. I also noticed that turning the camera on at 75mph is a little nauseating...

Thats exactly our plan also.

myoung84

I'd even settle for a house in town with an over-sized 3 car garage (at least 25' deep) and a backyard big enough for a storage shed for my bike and ATV. I would also like to be able to keep my boat at the house so I need a 10' gate going to the backyard and a concrete pad for it. I really like the house we are in now (2500 sq ft), but the garage isn't big enough and I have no where to store my big toys other than the garage. I have a storage shed in the back but it's not big enough... I'd like to start looking soon, but I almost can't afford to sell my house after all the realtor fees and closing costs... Not really interested in breaking even.

BMRbrnSNRbrd

Right, when it comes to my next house I'm going to wait until the right time for me and the economy.

Scored some smoked LED cab lights for $60! Pretty sure they are Recons. Also ordered some VHT nightshades to tint the signals on the mirrors. While everything is apart, I am going to wire the mirror signals to also be parking lights. Should look pretty sweet rolling down the road!

Got me some smoked LED cab lights! Bought them used and they came in a Mopar box, but I think they are the same as Recon. The base is the exact same size as the factory lights and I was able to use the stock rubber gasket as well. The truck is covered in bug guts, but you get the idea. I'll try and get some better pics later...

Damn dude... That will be sick!

I think I am going to either go up to 34" or 35" tires.... I figured a 20" wheel with a 33 would have filled the wheel well up a little more than it did.... So i'm in need of some bigger tires

myoung84
07-13-2012, 02:56 PM
I hope I can maybe get them by this by this fall. Still have to figure out what I'm going to do about TPMS sensors. I'm going to keep the stock wheels and tires so I might just swap them over rather than dropping $250 on new ones.

I think 34s will be just about perfect unless you plan on lifting more. Maybe by the time I need new tires I can drop some more cash on a nice Carli package...

That's cheap! Most of the rim companies want $60-70 each!

It looks like it's holding up pretty good. I am ashamed to admit this, but I really haven't given a good washing in a long time. I've rinsed it off, but not really "cleaned" it. I keep meaning to go out and Fukken wax it, but never have time, plus it's been too damn hot!

I'll be selling the stock rims and tires, less than 8k miles on them... TPMS sensors not included.

myoung84
07-16-2012, 12:46 PM
I chickened out and swapped out the tires for a 295/70/18. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on 35" tires, so I decided not to take a chance. These should fit much nicer and they are only about a 1/2" shorter and less than an inch narrower...

I hope they look big enough. There was only $125 difference in the two sizes but I didn't want to risk them not fitting. Nittos site shows these to be 34.5" tall but they are about 1.6“ narrower which should eliminate clearance issues with the control arms..

Rims already showed up! These were dropped shipped from Kansas. The tires and lug nuts were supposed to ship today from NC, so hopefully they will be here by Friday. I also ordered TPMS sensors on eBay for $70, which is cheaper than having them taken out of the stock rims. These will be here tomorrow...

Anyone want a complete set of PW rims and tires with TPMS sensors? About 7k miles on them.

07-18-2012, 04:11 PM
lol.. I didn't want to mess with the flares... But I love the way they look.. I almost backed out of them 3 or 4 times but.. I had already told Dave I was going to sell him my stock flares... Didn't want to be a dick and back out, He really wanted them flares.. He even tried to steal them After Kicker Bash while we were taking pictures of the trucks. now that I got them painted and installed it's one of my most favorite mods on the truck..

myoung84
07-18-2012, 05:01 PM
It's looks bad ass!

I still have to order another tire for a spare. The stocker is going to be way to short. Closest I can find it a 285/75/17, which is still about a 1/2" shorter so if I have a flat on the rear I have to move one of the front tires back and put the spare up front... But this is still better than spending another $500+ on another rim and tire that's going to get trashed under the truck...

(S.M.R) 101
07-18-2012, 05:27 PM
I hear you there.. I thought about buying a spare rim and tire but backed out... If I get a flat so be it... Knock on wood I don't lol

Unless you go up some more, 35's probably won't fit without a little rubbing. These measure 33.5" x 12". Truck now sits roughly 41" up front and 43 1/4" rear. These are the driver side measurements, passenger side it 1/4" taller.

Well, against the advice of some 3rd gen PW guys, I ordered some 2" lift spacers for up front and 1.5" blocks out back. I went with Top Gun Customz for both because I really like their rear block design.

http://www.topguncustomz.com/images/product/large/9832_1_.jpg

I also have a new hitch coming in tomorrow. I've never really like the billet style hitches and they are too damn expensive so I started searching for alternatives. I also wanted black and not the cheap looking ones with removable pics. This one from Trimax looks to be nice. My 6" drop was just about perfect on stock tires, but I've gained 1" of lift from tires and adding another 1.5" with blocks. So, this 8" adjustable hitch should be good.

As a shop owner I know that's not a bad deal on their end. Tires and wheels are so competitive that theres literally no room for mark up. I know you can get them a lot cheaper off the internet, local shops can barely compete with all the other internet prices, but not tires/wheels. I only mark my wheels/tires up $20 no matter how much they are b/c they are so expensive. Normal retail markup is 30%. On a lot of brands I pay more wholesale than you can buy them off the internet for.

Not trying to gripe or anything, just giving you their point of view.

They wanted $129 for a full set of lugnuts for the wheels....... they also charge people 400 bucks for a 2" daystar level kit... and 400 to install it. I know the owner of the shop he is a dick. He knows no one around here offers what he does and he takes huge advantage of that.

I understand how businesses operate and usually what to expect the prices I get from owners like this..... but this guy takes what the regular price for anything and marks it up. To a stupid amount of money...

This guy is loaded... we hit a bunch of gas wells on hIs parents property

He tried telling me for the same bushwacker flares I have now, with his discount "because I'm a fellow oil & gasser" his words. That he would give them to me for 640 and 1000 painted to match the truck.....

He's a snake and is only out to line his pockets.. which is why I said something about it in the first place.. was not trying to bash shop owners..

My DT Pro Fab steering brace came in yesterday and I installed it last night. Installation was a breeze and only took about 20 minutes, including getting out all my tools and jack. My new bottle jack/jack stand combo worked great for holding up the smartbar side of the sway bar.

I also called up TGC and paid for my level spacers and lift blocks. They apologized for their mistake and thanked me for my honesty. I was hoping for a little discount, but they didn't offer... :D

Just be careful with the brace off road...there are several incidents where the brace snapped the steering shaft and/or damaged the case. Tying the frame together through the shaft is fine as long as the frame doesn't move too much.

The brace can be modified to avoid the issue.

Finally installed my lift spacers this weekend. Went with 2" up front and 1.5" in back. A lot of the hard core Power Wagon guys frown upon spacers, but it works for me. Already have bad wheel hop in sand so it's not the end of the world if it gets a little worse. And I hate driving in sand anyways. The axle is off centered a little so I'll be buying a new adjustable track bar soon, either Carli or Pure Performance. Don't really see a need to go with longer control arms just yet since my tires clear just fine, but they are on the list. On road manners haven't changed a bit, haven't had a chance to take it off road yet.

This is as high as I am going. I'm at 83" to the top of the cab lights, and that gets a little close in parking garages. I was in a 7' parking garage this evening at the hospital and it was scary close! It also just barely clears my garage door so I can still change my oil in the garage, can't spare another inch though. I can also easily clear 35's if I want in the future.

Pictures aren't the best. I'll get more later after it's cleaned up a little.

I got my new Carli track bar installed last night. It was pretty easy to do, but ended up having to bust loose the upper steering linkage (or whatever it's called) to get the axle side bolt back in. Even with the wheel turned all the way to the right, it wasn't going back in. I initially had it set a 39 1/8" but the axle was still not centered so I took it out to 39 1/4". It's still not perfect but it's much better. A few quick turns on the upper steering linkage adjustment and the steering wheel was centered again, so no need for an alignment just yet. Don't really notice much difference from stock, but my truck has less than 9k miles so stuff isn't worn out yet. Still plan on replacing the control arms with either Carli or Pure Performance before too long. I like the PP because they are adjustable, and cheaper...

Last pic also shows my Lamin-x tinted fog lights that I did a while back. They blend in much better now.

I have a little better throttle response and it feels like it pulls a little harder on the top end. I say it's worth it.

Kyle, your diff guard should bolt right up with no grinding. I found out that the Power Wagons have a little extra casting around the housing for extra strength. This is what has to be ground off.

What is the Carli Track bar for Morgan? I want to go lower but already have a little bump steer when I'm on especially bad roads...it tends to walk to the right a bit. I'm sure that unit is only for 4x4 or 2500 or both but I would love to fab something up to firm up my steering.

It's adjustable so I can center the axle after my lift. It also eliminates the rubber bushings that prematurely wear out and cause death wobble and firms up the front end a little. It's only for the 2500/3500 4x4. I'm not sure what you could do for the front of your truck. Maybe some better shocks would help?

Here's the slow build up of my onboard air setup. I went with dual Viair 400c compressors and a 3 gallon tank. I got the compressors installed. Drilled and tapped the frame and used some heavy duty L brackets.

I didn't get the tank mounted yesterday but I did get the power wires ran. I used 4 gauge wire through a 60A fuse to a fused distribution block with two 30A fuses. Then from there 8 gauge wire through each relay then to each compressor. Everything is wrapped in wire loom to look stock. I still need to wire the coil side of the relays through the pressure switch and a toggle switch somewhere. I'm still not sure where I want to mount the switch, I'll probably stick it under the hood for now. I'll eventually get a gauge with a switch to mount in the cab somewhere...

I also ran the 3/8" airline from the intake on the compressors to the filters that I stuffed behind the stock air box. I'm still waiting on some fittings and airline as well as my bottle of Loctite 545 thread sealant, which is supposed to be the best stuff to use. That won't be here until Monday, so there's not too much I can do until then...

More pics. Ignore the dirtiness, this is about as clean as the engine bay gets. It is a Power Wagon after all!

I don't think he is right now. He's installing an on-board air system for airing his tires up after going offroad.

10-25-2012, 12:05 PM
It is a lot of work (and $$$) to do it right and do it clean. I could have done it quicker and cheaper but I didn't want a hack job. Things like the wore loom and fused distribution block instead of a couple wires crimped together are what make it look like a stock installation.

The plan is to eventually add train horns, but not right now. Like I said, my main reason for on board air is to air up tires. Having air for train horns was just a bonus.

Edit: Beat me to it Dave...

I've always loved the idea of a self-sufficient truck, especially in something like a Power Wagon variety. Lots of light, tools, on-board air, radio (transmission, not entertainment), etc is badass. If I lived in Arizona I would have a totally different kind of truck.

I would LOVE to have this truck in Arizona or even somewhere like Utah. I'd be at Moab all the time!

I've actually started making a list of some other crap I want. A Hi-Lift jack with all the accessories is on the list. The one time I had this truck stuck with nothing in front of me to winch on, a Hi-Lift with the tire lifting attachment would have been a life saver.

I understand that...my truck was different when I lived in Arizona than it is now. High lifts, an air compressor or C0 bottle and a cb are mandatory for serious off roading.

I'm 100% done with the system. I got my airline, fittings, and Loctite 545 in the mail on Monday and finished up the final plumbing. I flipped the switch on to start the compressors and nothing happened. I started checking fuses, all were good. Then checked the relays, both were functioning correctly. Checked voltage at the distribution block, relays, and compressors, everything was showing 0V. When I turned the switch off then I had 12V at the distribution block and one side of the relay, just as I should. Turned the switch back on, and 0V everywhere. Check fuses again, two on the distribution block and one at the battery, all ohmed out good. I was frustrated and tired so I called it a day. I went to school for electrical engineering, I shouldn't be having these problems.

Went back out yesterday with a clear head and it was obvious what was wrong. With the switch off, I had 12V right after the fuse at the battery, but with it on, it went to 0V. I replaced the 60A glass fuse and the compressors fired up. Not sure why I didn't try this the day before. I've never seen a fuse that would ohm out good but be open when a load was applied. Very odd...

I then decided that I didn't like the location of my quick connect, so I got some 1/4" air hose and routed it to the rear of the truck. It's mounted to a strip of aluminum and covered in plasti-dip. I covered the quick connect with a rubber table end I got from the hardware store. I used hose barbs and hose clamps for this connection, I hope it doesn't leak over time. If it does, I'll replace it with some DOT airline and compression fittings. So far, I don't see any leaks. I'll let it sit for a few days then see if I've lost any pressure. Fill time from 0 psi to 145 psi was just under 3 minutes. I've got my tire inflation gun and about 20' of air hose that I will keep in the truck. This will reach all of the truck tires as well as the tires on most trailers.

I don't go nearly as often as I would like to, I've only had this truck off road a few times. My weekends around this time of year are pretty booked up with family stuff. I hope to do some good wheeling this winter when things calm down. I went out to white water park at Keystone a few months ago and that was my last trip. Wasn't really impressed, it's all sand and the trails were sized more for ATV's than full size trucks. My first trip was to Camp Gruber and that was OK, it was mostly just driving down the cleared areas for the power lines. Trails here were also to tight for a full size.

Do you know any good spots around here? I really don't like just playing in the mud, I want some real off road trails that are cleared enough not to have tons of scratches when I'm done.

I want to make it down to Clayton, I hear they have some good off-roading down there. I would also like to go to Disney soon too.

There is a place known as camel-toe near Berryhill between 41st Street and Avery Drive that is supposed to have a mix of mud and trails but I have not yet been back there to check it out. I have mainly just done a little playing in the mud because that's what is available right next to my house. I would love to go to Clayton and Disney sometime but that won't be until next year. other than that there is a small off-road park in Lexington near Norman that I have heard has some trail as well as mud holes for all types of vehicles from atvs to daily drivers to specially built vehicles but I have not been there yet either. I believe it's called SUNDOG.

Latest mod: Heated seats.

With winter coming soon I figured I would add some heated seats. I bought a kit on Amazon for $189 shipped. I did the passenger side first and it took about an hour and a half to get the seats torn apart, heaters installed, and seats back together. The seat bottom comes out fairly easy then you have to remove most of the cover from the pad by clipping the hog rings. I did have to buy hog ring pliers and a box of new hog rings which I found at my local Atwoods. The cover on the seat back is held in with velcro so it's much easier. The seat bottom needs to have a hole cut in the center and two notches on the sides for the hog rings. The seat back needs about 1.5" trimmed off the top unless you want to clip the hog rings there for that little extra. I didn't feel that it was worth the trouble. The driver side only took about 30 minutes since I knew how everything came apart.

After driving around last night my wife had to switch from high to low because they were getting pretty toasty, which is good! The only downside vs. the factory heated seats is that you have to remember to turn them off. They're wired to a switched source so they won't be on when the truck is off, so it shouldn't be a big deal. I did a quick chop to show the general heating area. You can see where it's trimmed on the seat back to follow the mounting rods on the seat cover.

Nope, switch panel is full. I really wish they would have put 7 buttons there, I could find a use for all of them. 1 & 2 are my front lights, 3 is front camera, and 4 is my locker bypass.

The switch panel wouldn't work very well anyways since there would be no way to change from low to high. You could wire it to come on with the switch panel with only one setting or you could have secondary switch to control high and low and your main power would come from the switch panel.

That's all too much trouble, especially considering this kit comes with a high quality harness that is 100% plug and play. The only wires you have to connect are the ground and 12V switched source.

I went back to stock height and replaced my tires today, again. Went with the Toyo Open Country A/T II in a 285/65/18, which is one of the extreme sizes. They don't look near as good as the old ones, but I think they still look good on the truck. The stock 17's measured 31.5 on the truck and these are measuring 31.75, so just a hair bigger. I only drove a couple miles home from the tire shop so I can't say much, but they look like they are going to be a great tire. They are also 16 lbs lighter than my old tires, so that alone should bring back my decent gas mileage. 10 mpg was starting to suck!

Here's a couple pics. I'll get some better ones when I get my next mod installed... :D

Two Hi-Lift Jacks! I asked for one for Christmas and didn't intend to get two, but I'm not going to complain! Just got one mounted with the Hi-Lift brackets and the other will stay in the garage in the bag unless I'm going on an adventure, or it might eventually find it's way on my ATV...
