figured id start build thread since it seems to be the going thing nowdays. then i decided by build is too slow for that so i figured id just share all the stuff i do when im not working. i live, eat, and breathe diesel trucks so i thought id share some of my favorite things with you guys. thus the build/pic whoring/mechanical exploits thread was born... :rockit:

we'll start in the beginning. the day i bought my truck. i had been into diesels for a long time before i actually got one. i had been rockin the 96 short wide chevy until then...

here she is on the day we met.. the goofy guy in the overalls is my old man, dont hate. lol

shortly after that added the bushwacker pocket style fender flares and nfab steps and de-badged..

ran her just like that until 36,000 mi and then started the warranty voiding mods :) i added an h&s mini maxx which adds up to 175hp and an H&S trans tune to help that poor 68rfe hold up a little longer. i also added a flo-pro 5" DPF delete exhaust, an S&B cold air intake, and a sinister EGR/ cooler delete kit and arp head studs. and 1 new injector in #5 courtesy of my drunk azz hitting it with a torque wrench while putting in the head studs... that turned out to be a $600 boo boo. :favorites68: the i got some isspro EV2 pillar guages to keep an eye on some things the mini maxx cant watch..

then the smaller stuff. blue LED dome lights from superbrightleds.com and some cover king neoprene seat covers from dodge.. i wanna stop and talk a minute about these covers, all i can say about them is GREAT! perfect fit and tough as hell! it takes talent to put them on but once they are, the fit is absolutely awesome.. also got some black bezeled headlights off ebay and ... yeah pretty shotty DONT waste your money. i ended up putting my stockers back in..

thats all ive got so far for the actual truck build part of this thread. plans for the future are a 3 piece manifold and industrial injection twin turbos, snow water/meth injection, II arson3 CP3 kit, 150hp injectors, suncoast OM3GA 68rfe trans with triple disk converter and billet flexplate, air dogII fuel pump, GDP ladder bars, take the lift off and put it down on some 35s, and a full GDP intake manifold system. and a AFE bladerunner intercooler.. my goal is a RELIABLE 750hp daily driver..

im a grease money by nature, i dont know why but ive always loved turning wrenches, i was a natural gas compressor mechanic for a while until i decided i didnt want my hobby to become a job so i went to a different part of the oilfield.

one of the engines i used to work on, Caterpillar 3616, and i slow speed cooper, cant remember the model on that one. these were taken when i was still in college but you get the idea

by far the most interesting project ive ever worked on, my buddy broke the frame on his '06 mega cab 3500 and we swapped the frame.. yes, i said swapped the frame.....in a weekend..

The early mega cabs had a weak spot right where the bed meets the cab. Couple that with a repo lift by night and a 40ft almost always overloaded gooseneck nearly every day and you'll find the weakest link lol

Maybe......Maybe my next truck will be a cummins. I was going to by a Cummins before I bought this truck but when it came down to it... I have no need for one so I figured I would thake the extra money it was going to cost and Mod the shit out of my current one.

I know what y'all are saying about diesel costing more but for me there's no comparison. I drive a 3/4 ton ford gasser at work and I wanna drive the dang thing off a bridge! I can't speak for the newer hemi's but my grandpas '04 does ok until you hook it to a trailer and then it won't get out of its own way. And ive never seen close to 17 while driving it. It's all preference but I'll never own another gasser.

-New boost and exhaust backpressure gauges
-H&S intake manifold and boost tubes
-Air dog 165gph lift pump
-TS performance MP-8 rail pressure module (120hp stackable tuner)
-and a snow 3 stage water/methanol injection kit.

Y'all ever heard a cummins with a mad exhaust leak? Sounds kinda like a train so I re-tapped the mani and got it back in. After a couple hot passes through the neighborhood which I'm sure the neighbors loved, I pull it in the driveway and I'm about to put up tools and I notice the truck kinda rocking. So I put it in reverse and BANG shirt into drive and BANG back to reverse, BANG. Pretty sure one of the back u-joints are toasted and I leave for the NHRDA world finals in ennis, tx in the morning.... FML.... anybody wanna come over? I've got beer and some bombin hot links?? :P

1. Retroshop lights with HIDs. They're high, but they're kick ass. The downside is I really could only afford to do the headlights and I'd have to wait on the fogs which I worried would look kinda goofy.....

2. A fass 150 lift pump. Long story short, MOAR FEWL!!!!!

3. Pusher intake horn, more air, more power, better mileage.

Ok I guess I'm gonna let the cat outta the bag. I am in the planning stages of making some serious cosmetic and performance changes to my truck. So here goes.

First thing is the lift is coming off. I'm trading for stock suspension with a leveling kit and 35s and a set of stock wheels and tires my plan is to sell my wheels with the 35s and the leveling kit and then....

On the exhaust, definitely the stack over the duals. It really depends on what height the stack will sit at.

They are OEM lights, retrofitted with 55W 5K HIDs. Pulled them today, they were functioning as they should, but I have reached out to my old supplier, as the ballasts and harness are all fuckered up - and need replaced (corrosion, even though I greased the shit out of these when I installed them). One way or another, the ballasts and wiring will be new. These also have the Gatling Gun 2.0 shrouds (large ones). Painted gloss black, everything but the high beam bowl (thats in chrome).

That one reflector is a little warped. Hence the lower cost on these things. Oddly enough, the customer didn't even realize it until I pointed it out (we swapped these lights for '13s at my house today).

To rebuild, they would run $875. I want $525 for them, shipped. :chewie:

I ran nitto 420s on my old truck, and they hooked good. With ladder bars you shouldn't have any trouble with them at all. Especially if you plan to launch in 4wd

I'm not 100% against nittos. All I know of them is how horrible the mud grapplers wear and how cheap my dads terra grapplers were. Its gonna be hard to pull me away from toyo after being thoroghly impressed and satisfied with the two sets of mt's I've had. What do the 420s look like?

The 420s are a street radial, not terribly well suited for all terrain use. But they are what's on the ford you posted a picture of one page back!

Aren't the Grabbers really soft? I've read that they don't last long and with the heavy ass Cummins you'll probably chew through them pretty quick.

I've been really happy with my Toyo ATII tires. I think that would be a good setup.

The ply o the tire varies on the grabbers. You can get them in 10ply for heavier vehicles

They are! The lights take 195 bulbs so I bought 921s because they're pretty close to the same size. Well they're actually a whole lot bigger. So I had to trim the hole in the lights to make them fit! But yeah they're super bright! I need to get some new hids to match them since my retro solutions crapped out on me
