Ive been using Mobil one synthetic since 35,000 miles, I now have 46,800 on my odometer and I've noticed after I change my Oil( 3000-4500) I'm about .5 to 1 quart low, but it doesn't smoke and I'm not leaking, at least that I can see. Do I need to invest in a catch can? Or...?

Your truck doesn't have the right PCV system for a catch can....sorry Jake!

Nah, just the 09+ from all the forum talk I've heard. I would check your throttle body blade and see if there is a bunch of oil on it

what would that mean? some sort of intake manifold problem like colten had?

No couldn't be that because they did away with the plenum plates after 01. If your losing oil, also check your coolant and make sure there isn't any oil in it. Vise versa in the oil, make sure theres no coolant in it. If there is though... you could have a blown head or head gasket...

This sounds pretty normal. I've had 3 Hemi's (still have 2) and they all use a little oil. I'm typically about 0.5 to 1 qt low after 5000 miles. Unless your blowing smoke, I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm not, well wasn't terribly till I took off my throttle body and found pretty heavy spotting and oil in the I take manifold. So I'm not sure what to think

Perhaps these other guys have seen your truck but there isn't much to go on here for the rest of us. :)
Is it a Hemi? 2002 (3rd gen) 1500's still had 5.9 engines in them. The Oil you speak of could be a blown plenum on a magnum.

I would think a 2003 with a hemi could be rigged for a catch can. There are now "universal" catch can kits on the aftermarket.

On a magnum you won't see any smoke...some motors ping and some don't.

That's awful expensive oil for such short change intervals too. I run regular old Castrol 10-30 with a squirt of hyperlube (summer) and have done so for almost the last 70k+ miles.

my wife's Yukon with the 5.3L burns a qt every oil change and its a 2008 model..... f'n crazy on a newer truck! Pull your O2 sensor and see if it's fouled or dirty as it could be making it worse by throwing off the fuel ratio....
