Guys, I’ve seen this on other sites and decided to do it here. This is my truck from start on October 23, 2010 to now. Enjoy.

Dealership picture. Notice the wheels they had on it. Needless to say I made sure they understood that would be changed before the deal was done.

Here she is with my previous truck, a 2004 White QC Hemi. I still miss that truck desperately. I stripped it down quite a bit before I took it to the dealership and handed them the keys.

Here she is after having the correct wheels swapped on and the windows tinted 5% up front and 5% over the factory tint on all the rear windows.

First mod early November 2010 was a Raceland USA e-cutout that had been on my previous truck.

Trip to Tulsa, OK with my wife also in early November 2010. At this point I had plug and play HIDs in all four front lights.

My Christmas present to myself and the truck is still one of my favorite mods I’ve ever done to a truck. Thanks Jeremy!

I especially like this pic because of the way the projectors pick up the light and the angle…kind of looks like a caged pit bull.

I later tinted my fogs with Lamin-X to help dull down the chrome.

December 23, 2010 brought my next big mod with a 2/4 drop using the McGaughy’s Economy kit.

Here’s are some pics taken in early January that I did some editing to:

Some more pictures taken in early January 2011 that were taken at one of my favorite local spots:

Late January 2011 brought on quite a few changes that were all done at my house by myself.

First was painting the factory dual exhaust tips satin black:

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/2011-01-26172220.jpg

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/2011-01-27104418.jpg

Then came the complete headache of custom painting my factory front and rear emblems:

I also Plasti-dipped my factory chrome clads and painted my brake calipers bright red:

My factory horizontal chrome grill inserts also got the Plasti-dip treatment:

A quick pic of my kiddo with the truck during the February 2011 snow storm:

At the end of February 2011 I received and installed my Billet Technology Oil Catch Can. Sure, there may be cheaper options, but I KNOW this works:

In mid-March 2011 I took the truck out and took almost 100 pictures. Here are my favorites:

One of the smaller and cheapest (free) mods I’ve done was swapping the flat black vinyl on my b-pillars to gloss…they now tie in much better with my dark tint:

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/2011-03-16153732.jpg
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/2011-03-17102431.jpg

In April I tackled one of the things that I think Dodge dropped the ball on…mainly the cheap black plastic they use for the antenna base and tailgate handle despite that everything else is color matched. Again, this was done in the garage by myself:

The antenna base:

May 11, 2011 I finally tinted my tails and puddle lights using VHT Niteshades:

On May 20, 2011 I finally tackled the tailgate handle:

On July 28, 2011 I decided I needed something to brighten up all the gray and black on the truck so I went back to chrome wheels by peeling the Plasti-dip off. This also shows the Tonno Pro soft tri-fold tonneau cover I added before our Las Vegas trip:

There may not be a lot of money in it and there are plenty of large mods I still want to do, but I think, considering how much I’ve spent, the truck looks great and unique. My favorite thing is how much I’ve done myself despite never having done anything like smoothing and painting before.

You nailed it in your last statement Dave. " My favorite thing is how much I’ve done myself "

I loved my 2004 but I appreciate my 08 a lot more because everything that I have done I have done it myself. All my mods are small but make it unique and when people ask where I bought or where I took my truck to get something done, I smile and say I did that myself..

your truck is one of my top favorite trucks, So if it ends up missing one day don't come looking for me haha

Thank you very much Kyle, that's a hell of a compliment.

If you do make it disappear, make sure no part of it is ever seen again so I can pick up a new Charger R/T.

I got the pictures but what I need to really do is write everything down in a book and keep it with the truck. I think that would help the trucks value IF I ever sell it

Well, I haven't updated in a LONG time...got side tracked by just adding new threads instead of updating this one. So...here goes:

In September of 2011 I received a two piece locking billet fuel door from a member of Ram Forum. When I got it, he had been trying to paint it but was having a hell of a time. I decided to give it a shot and after a few failed attempts, finally got it to work:

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/2011-09-16152836.jpg
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/2011-09-16155535.jpg

In October '11, I found a guy on Craigslist with a set of true 22" NightRunner SRT10 wheels. He wanted a straight trade for my stock wheels and tires so I drove to Arkansas and picked them up.

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/2011-10-07142543.jpg

Here's why I got them so easily...two of the tires were toast.

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/2011-10-13154105.jpg

I ordered new tires for the rears and "discarded" the old ones...

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/burnoutpic.jpg

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/2011-10-19183203.jpg

The next thing up was getting rid of the huge grill badge Dodge decided to recess into the grill. I got this done in December 2011:

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/872.jpg
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/124.jpg
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/2011-12-16173345.jpg
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/SANY1899.jpg

Here is how she was sitting in mid-December 2011:

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/SANY1898.jpg
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/SANY1900.jpg

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/IMG_0579.jpg

So in January 2012 the wheel bug bit again. I made a deal with a friend who took my SRTs and bought these black five spokes and gave them to me. The grill was off to get fixed after it got chipped:

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/IMG_1346.jpg

BMRbrnSNRbrd
09-28-2012, 09:04 PM
In mid-January I ordered a Vararam:

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/IMG_1442.jpg
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/IMG_1450.jpg

I didn't do much for a couple of months but in June the paint bug hit me. I took the Vararam apart and decided to paint it to match the truck and use the truck's factory nose badge as an accent piece, which I painted as well:

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/2012-06-08001148.jpg
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/2012-06-08013007.jpg
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/20120928_192448.jpg

At this time I also attempted to paint my interior plastics...it was a disaster. I took it to a professional...another disaster. That story continues later.

Also in June 2012 I bought some OEM Outdoorsman flares that were already the right color. This is one of my top five mods because, to me, it gave the truck's exterior a more finished look. I like the wider look it gives the truck and also helps pull my wide 305 tires in.

Here is a shot with the fronts done and the backs still without the flares so you can see what I mean about the finished look:

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/2012-06-26140227.jpg

And all installed:

Also in June, I had my rear tailgate badge shaved:

June 30th, 2012 was one of the highest points for my truck and one of the lowest. That morning I won my first trophy at a car show when I took third:

And then on the way home...trophy still in the truck, I stopped at Sonic to get my lovely wife something to drink...and didn't quite clear the Sonic sign:

Luckily, I have a hell of a paint and body guy at my disposal. I dropped my truck off on July 4th at 3pm. I got it back fixed, repainted, cleared, and buffed at 2:30pm the NEXT DAY. It cost me $100.

After spending some money fixing my bike, I decided this week that it was time to get back to the truck. Last week I dropped my tailgate, fuel door, and interior plastics all off to my painter (the good one I use, not the guy I gave a shot a while back) so that he could fix the mistakes made by someone else. Today I got all of them back. There will be better pictures to follow of all pieces, but here is the interior parts since no one has seen them done:

I also had my Magnaflow Y-Pipe installed today that I won from a DodgeTalk Facebook giveaway. While I was there, I discussed with the exhaust guy that I didn't like the way the crossover pipe went under the trans pan. We agreed that it would make servicing the transmission a pain and that it couldn't help keeping transmission temps down with all that exhaust heat running right under it. We came up with a plan to move the y-pipe back about eight inches and run the crossover pipe back:

Factory design with "d-ports:"

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/20120928_161327.jpg

That is it for now. I'm going to start using this thread to update instead of making new threads each time. Right now the plans are to add some painted door inserts to pull the doors into the overall interior look and then to custom paint the wheels.

Just placed my order for the BBK headers. Matt (Moes Performance) throws in a set of OEM Mopar gaskets so I saved that and he ships for free! I just paid $399 out the door. They won't ship until after the 20th but at least now I don't have money burning a hole in my pocket.

Yeah, I had planned on buying new OEM gaskets anyway. The truck just hit 33k miles the other day so I'm sure the originals are fine, but I might as well change them while I'm in there. His throwing them in for free was just a nice bonus.

What fasteners did you use Morgan? Did you apply anything to them before installing?

I used the fasteners that came with my JBA headers, they looked good to me. I imagine the BBKs will come with something similar as well. Didn't put anything on them, just stuck them in dry.

Just a little update:

On Thursday night I washed the truck with ONR. If you've never heard of it, check it out. I've been using it for over two years:

http://www.optimumcarcare.com/onrwns.php

It only took an hour and a half in the garage, where I left the truck until Friday morning when I would do some real work.

Friday morning I got up at 9:30 and started claying the truck with the Mother's California Gold Clay kit. Seemed pretty good. I've used a Mother's kit before and was happy enough. I'm not sure what the difference is between the "California Gold" and regular kits though. Claying took about two hours or so.

It wasn't nearly as much work as I expected. The last truck I clayed was the white '04 and it had rail dust spots all over so it was tedious work. On the '10, I just went off of the feeling. I could tell where the really rough spots were and when it started to clear up. Honestly, half of the nicks and such that I thought were damage were just contaminates in the paint. I even got one spot off of the tailgate that I thought was under the clear.

Next I waxed with Zaino's ZAIO, or "All in one." I wanted a wax better than some store-bought stuff and this was recomended to me by a guy who used to detail vehicles and keeps his Corvette flawless. I was even able to pick it up locally from the guy he buys from. I am very happy with the ZAIO finish. I didn't layer it because it's pointless with a wax that contains cleaners as you just take the previous layer off. It went on easy and came off even easier. It wasn't until I was done that I found out about Z2 and Z5, which can be layered as much as you want on top of ZAIO. Now I have something to try in the spring.

Here are the products I used:

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/BMRbrnSNRbrd/2010%20Dodge%20Ram/548828_290067897774789_488179703_n_zpse00880c0.jpg

Overall I'm very happy with over six hours of work. The truck's paint feels almost odd as it's so slippery now. It's not a wet feeling...just slippery. I'll get some better pics off of my DSLR, but here's one off of my cell. I think next time I'm going to try polishing after I clay...I've seen amazing results with even a cheap polish.

BMRbrnSNRbrd
10-22-2012, 09:15 AM
My ultimate custom tails would match my headlights. I wanted to find an aftermarket set of led tails with clear lenses. I wanted to have my factory tails separated, painted so that the bowls are satin black and the rest is color matched, and then put back together with the clear lenses...these would match my headlights perfectly. Then, I could put my factory red lenses on the led tails and sell them to recoup some of the cost.

The problem with this is that I have been told it is nearly impossible to separate the tails without damage.

Well, lame sauce time. I cancelled my BBK headers order. They are having constant issues and instead of shipping this week, they backed it up AGAIN to November 20th. I could have probably taken one more week, but a month? This is no fault of Matt at Moe's, by the way. He was basically lied to last week when they said they sent them out to the coaters.

So, now I have $400 or so do something with. My first thought was an 87mm Moe's throttle body. However, I want to think out some options. There are plenty of "show" mods I could do like painting my wheels or giving the interior a shot (blacking out the pillars and headliner) but I really wanted something to get the truck moving better.

A re-gear is not going to happen anywhere near that price but I started looking into stall converters. I've seen everything from a Circle-D as low as $400 to an Edge at $700 and back to a Circle-D as high as $1100+. Anyone ever installed one? Any reason why I would need billet this and billet that?

You have to consider that your truck is ten years old versus mine at two...a full rear-end is not as easily or affordably available.

Okiespaniels
10-23-2012, 07:35 PM
I know my experience is a bit old school, but I've run high stall converters...and while they work well, I've always found a gear swap a better way to increase performance.

What had you planned on running? I also figure you have a limited slip rear as well?

Yes..thats good Dave but you didn't answer my questions LMAO!

Here's why I asked...pardon me for repeating myself. TC's because of thier torque increase when they are "flashed" pretty much turn one legged rears into a one legged smoke show. You really need the power to go to both tires.

And my first question was what kind of stall speed were you considering.

BMRbrnSNRbrd
10-23-2012, 07:55 PM
First question: I'm not sure, I'm working on that now. I'm guessing around 2600.

Second question: There has been a debate as to what rearend I have. I know it has 3.55s, but I'm not sure if it's posi or open. I believed it was open, but then I did this burnout:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L805tmESMjA

And everyone swears that is impossible with an open diff.

ramthis9501
10-23-2012, 08:43 PM
I know I'm joking. But 4.10's would be the absolute best for your truck imo.

If you burn both your rear tires away from a dead stop, you might be....no you are..no, no, you most likely have a sure grip.
If you send your vin to ram they can send you back your build sheet and remove all doubt.
I'd vote for a 3,000 stall. 2,600 doesn't do much.

I suppose if the surface was wet enough...theoretcly it doesn't work that way. I suppose a bit of brake pressure could fool the open differential long enough to lock the spiders.

It's an old hot rodders trick...results vary.

myoung84

Nope, dry pavement, anytime I want, even from a roll. From everything I can find, the SRTs didn't get LSD until 2010 so I'm 99% sure its open.

After researching your charger's specs I read about something called esp and braking control... on these of vehicles the brakes act as I described above...lightly slowing one spinning tire to transfer power to the other. It's also used on High end suvs and is designed to improve traction on less than ideal surfaces.

Also found this as well...

BMRbrnSNRbrd
10-24-2012, 06:40 AM
I did some more research and found that I definitely have an open differential. When I did the burnout in the video, I had completely removed all traction control by pulling the ABS Pump fuse, so it wasn't done by the traction control. The only person that offered an explanation as to why I was spinning both on dry pavement with an open diff and no traction control simply stated something to the effect of "That's Hemi power!" That, of course, was no help.

I'm still very torn on what to order.

Oh, and Morgan I debated the JBAs but just can't see paying another $230 for the same thing. Sure, the BBKs keep getting pushed back, but they will be available eventually. I could get coated BBKs for $400 or coated JBAs for $630...just not worth it to me.

Were you doing a power brake? I don't know what pulling the ABS pump fuse will do.
Anyway...if you have a limited slip or locking differential you won't have to worry about it. The point I was trying to make is the extra torque output from a hi stall converter makes a non limted slip diff even more useless in racing or performance applications. So perhaps that might be a future purchase before the converter.

IMO, they aren't the same, JBA has a better, higher quality product. You can get the JBA ceramic coated headers at Autoanything for $555.80 or the stainless non-coated for $439.35. Use promo code "Loyalty" for 15% off. Since JBA uses stainless instead of mild steel, you could get away with non-coated headers. Personally, I think the extra $155.80 on top of the BBK's is worth it for the stainless steel with ceramic coating, especially since the JBA's have been proven to be a great product.

BBK has done nothing but disappoint, IMO. First they release headers that they say fit the new Hemi and when it comes up that ports don't match, they say it's fine to use them that way then mysteriously pull them off the market. Then you keep getting the run around on when they will be ready...

Y true duals tho? Y not just run larger single pipe and save money

BMRbrnSNRbrd

That's why I want to know if they are a direct bolt on. If they are, that's what I'm going to buy and just run the LTs to my Magnaflow Y pipe and leave everything from there back the same.

916Timmy
10-25-2012, 11:57 PM
The Jeep headers aren't a bolt in setup, they have to be done custom from the collector back. It will make better power and torque with two pipes when the go fast stuff goes on. 3" would be cheaper and easier, but the headers are set up to run duals. I will probably do 2.5" on each side and a nice X under the passenger side.

I received my new cross drilled and slotted rotors today and I am very impressed by them. They are just as nice as the set I had on my previous truck that looked and performed great.

Now my question is whether or not I should paint the brake rotor hub black or not. I would most likely use the same black Rustoleum paint I used on my rotors but I would hate for it to start chipping from wear and tear or taking the wheels on and off. Thoughts?

Just a few updated pictures of the truck. The only recent changes that you can really see in these pictures are the removal of the LED lightbar, removal of the painted two-piece fuel door and the addition of the 22" all black Milanos with 305/40 Nitto 420s.

I know it sounds like I've gone backwards, but I got an offer I couldn't refuse on the lightbar and the fuel door was more work than it was worth. The truck will also be getting dropped another inch very soon.

I know I've mentioned something about graphics, or something along those lines, before without much support. However, I'm really trying to find a way to break up some of that big gray billboard along the sides. I'm starting to think some sort of gloss black rocker stripes or something along those lines. Thoughts?

I like that idea, or even something along the upper body lines like you posted originally. I personally like how clean and simple the truck looks with the factory fuel door, it adds to the simplicity and clean styling of your truck. I generally like a little color on trucks as accents but the way you're sticking to the gray and black looks killer. What are your ideas on some sort of graphics? And what are your plans on execution?

Btw... The pics look killer!

Alright fellas, I'm back.

No, I'm not an admin, or even a member of the staff anymore. I honestly just don't have time to responsibly manage a site right now. Jeremy has taken over for me and I really appreciate it.

Anyway, the truck is still here. In February I wrecked it while taking a friend home. We were on partially melted ice in his neighborhood and slid through a corner, striking a wood post mail box. I had damage to the hood, driver side fender, and grill. Obviously I was upset, but I had (HAD) a good painter who I knew would treat me fairly. The very short version is that it took three tries to get the paint right and when he buffed the clear the last time, something was obviously on his pad that left terrible swirl marks.

In essence, the truck sat until August 23-25. Since my son went back to school, I had Fridays free and started on Friday 23 at 8:30 and didn't finish until sometime Sunday. I literally put about 20 hours into the truck's finish.

Here was the process:

Power wash at a coin-op
Two bucket wash with Meguiar's Ultimate
Clay bar with Meguiar's
Two-stage buff with Adam's system
Buff with Meguiar's 205
Seal with Chemical Guy's Deep Reflections XP (machine buff)
Wax with Chemical Guy's Extreme Depth Liquid Carnuba (machine buff)
and a final wipe down

All buffing was done with a Porter Cable 7424xp.

Here was the result:

Hey David, nice to see you back! Things have gotten pretty quiet around here with you < Mike and Colton absent.
The Ram looks good! Perhaps we'll see you around sometime.
