I went to install some MSD spark plug wires on my 2000 Ram and the ends of the boots are really to long. The fit over the spark plug but they don't really snap into place. I'm afraid they will pop off if I tried to install them.

Has anyone ever ran into this? I'm thinking about cutting the rubber boot to gain about an 1/8". Should I cut them? Thanks!

That's odd. I'm not too familiar with the 2nd Gen Rams. Do they use a straight plug boot or one with a 90* turn?

Not sure because I never tried this myself.. Maybe Al will chime in, he's pretty good with that kind of stuff.

It's a straight plug boot. I'll get some pictures later tonight. Thanks for the help!

Hmmm... I put new MSD plug wires on when replacing my plugs last time. They were kind of difficult to get seated all the way but I was able to get them on without trimming. I dont know what motor you're running, I've got a 360. The ends of the boots are only rubber though, no important pieces at the end so I Imagine that nothing would be hurt by trimming them. I would suggest using an exacto knife or something similar though to ensure a clean, straight cut to maximize their effectiveness at staying sealed

New boots and clips are pretty tough to push on.

An old mechanics tip is to spray some clear silicone down the wire into the boot, slide the clip on the wire down a bit and snap it on the plug. The boot should slip down on over the plug nice and snug once the clip snaps on.

BTW, clear silicone is a nice way to keep silicone wires nice and clean :)

It's a 2000 with a 360. I originally bought these wires for my 94 with a 3.18. I have the 3.18 on an engine stand without the spark plug shields and it's the same issue. They will not push on very well.

I will just cut off what I need. I'll try to look at all this again tomorrow or this weekend. Thanks for your input!
